The M3 engine sounds great, but it doesn't have the torque I got used to in the Vettes. Yes, it has horsepower, but just not the same.

I've grown tired of it, but need the extra seats for now.

If you had a CTS-V and C6Z's, I suspect you will miss them (at least the motors).

I don't see the M3 as a step down from the V. They are on about the same playing field, yeah the M3 has less HP but HP doesn't make a car. Now the new M5 is something to drool at. I just don't want to spend that much coin.
What it lacks in HP it'll make up in overall quality and feel. To me, that's way more important than just power anyway. Most American cars feel like cheap plastic to me.

I have never owned either a new CTS-V or a new M3 but I have driven both of them on multiple occasions. There was just something very un-inspiring about hitting the gas pedal on the M3. I know that they are pretty good by the numbers but they just don't feel at all like a sports car "should" feel to me (yes, I know that is 100% subjective).

On the opposite side of the coin, a friend of mine who owns the new M3 with all the goodies (the one I have driven) absolutely loves it. I guess it all comes down to what your preferences are in how a car drives.

Looking forward to seeing pics of yours and congrats on your purchase.

You'll miss the torque for sure, the 335 is better road car, the M3 a better track car. At low speeds and in traffic the M3 feels a little anemic, which is why the next M3 (2013) will have the 335 derived engine.

That said you'll love the quality and service you get from BMW, congrats

RedLS1GTO,
I see you are over in Louisville, it's where bought the V and the BMW. I know I'll be down a little on HP and Torque but I'll gladly leave that behind for all the BS GM has given me about the V. This thing has been cursed since the day I brought it home.
I liked the interior on the BMW and the overall appearance of the M. I would have liked the M5 but just too much coin for me.

Where did you get it here in Louisville?

I can't blame you for ditching the Caddy under your circumstances. I have owned GM cars almost exclusively throughout my life but the way they are today I would definitely think twice about it. I have been considering a new V for a while now and it is constant horror stories like yours that have kept me from it.

I was not a fan AT all of the E46 M3s but in my brief E9X M3 experience my only complaint is the lack of torque. That being a deciding factor for me is mostly due to the fact that I have been in American torque monsters for pretty much my whole life and it is just what I am used to. The overall appearance and interior is very nice. I took a 6 hour (each way) trip in one not long ago and it was a very comfortable car both in the driver's seat as well as the passenger side.

I'm sure you will enjoy it!

Man, I really hope all is well for you. You've been through the wringer.

If nothing else, we've all learned something.

I had no idea lemon laws did not protect you if you bought the car out of state.

Sam Swope BMW.
I know I said I'd never buy out of state again but the deal was good and the local BMW dealer thinks he's too good for everyone. I called and inquired about an M3, even stopped in. They wanted to sell me a 97K X5M but wouldn't search for an M3.
Oh well, I have a good feeling about this deal. The warning signs were present with the V from Brown Brothers the day I walked in to buy it. I waited 1.5 hours for the salesman to finish up with a customer who did not have credit and could not buy a car. Here I was standing with the check in hand. The car was not detailed, no owners manual, no second FOB, did not explain nothing on the car, hell I didn't know how to open the gas door for gas. A year and a half after I bought the V, I found out it came with free oil changes for life.
I understand about he torque, I've been a performance GM person since I was 18. GM has just pissed me off to the point I will not go back to them.

The 1.5 hour drive home will be very nice to break it in and get to know it a little better.

Sad to say the Cadillac will be the last GM car in our household. When it is time to upgrade the TrailBlazer I'll look to something other than GM. GM customer service SUCKS and the regional representative are total control ass freaks.
What about the poor schlub that ends up with your Caddy? Don't you have feelings of guilt over that?

I really should have known that. I have only been in Louisville for a short while but the Sam Swope dealers pretty much run this whole area.

If Gm doesn't why should he? They have more (of our ) money than he does.
