Default So we bought the lot next door

A friend of mine here is a part-time realtor and I gave him an assignment back in July '22: contact the owners of my two neighboring lots and tell them that you have a buyer. They don't need to know who. Whichever owner gives the best offer I will purchase that lot.

One owner never responded to numerous letters. The other, he found the owner's sister, in Scotland. The sister was "managing the estate", because the owner "is unable to communicate".

We settled on a price quickly, made a written offer with earnest money. Then waited. Five months.

Last week we finally closed at our attorney's office. The real reason the process took so long? The owner is in prison for cooking meth. A 14 year sentence. She and her boyfriend's son.

When we bought our town home here on the beach in 99 it took a very long time....we found out later the owner was in prison for murder so every time something went back and forth it took forever.

some 50 years ago my folks bought a house/lot WAY the hell outta town, and so it had two acres, and a vacant lot next door on a steep hillside to a creek at bottom of hill the road passed over.......they thought of buying that lot as it was vacant, and almost made a deal over it, but the lot was not usable as it did not 'perk' not suitable for a well and shit tank......so it was never built on, vacant to this day......with 2 acre zoning, they not running any shitty water out there, so no plumbing, folks even had their own phone pole in front for the power/phone/etc......I BET even today the twisted pair provide the only internet out there.....they MAY have cphone service though.....

My father bought the property next door to get rid of some undesirable neighbors. We lived on a corner property, the house on the other side was owned by a absentee landlord that lived about a 100 miles away. It was a large two story (2 flat) house. The bottom floor had 7 uncontrolled kids and made life nasty for us.

My father found out the house owners info and had a friend of his with a realtors license approach the absentee owner about selling it, After the landlord checked out the property he was willing to sell. My father did it that way as dad owned a business and figured the price would go up substantially if the real buyer was known.

Long story short we got the property but now to get those people out. All the law seemed to be on their side. Went through a few lawyers and time and as the old advise says, got a real sharp, hungry Jewish lawyer involved and he got them out in 6 months.

No disrespect intended to any of the Jewish faith! I have heard that lawyer advice for a long time and that lawyer certainly earned his money--
