Cilds play!
Pay attention to the clocking of the yokes when reassembling. They should be clocked 90 degrees to each other. EDIT: Thanks Kimmer! That should be childs play! Last edited by Shrek; 01-22-2011 at 4:05pm. Reason: LIMP KEY PAD |

My garage always looks like that when I work on my cars and I end up losing tools, especially sockets.

Quick update before I go back to work...
Project was leaking halfshaft seals with the addition of troubleshooting a shaking issue in reverse. Pulled the rear end out, almost have it completely apart. The fluid was smoked and there are metal chunks in the bottom although the gears and bearings look to be in good shape. At this point I am hoping that it might actually be a rear clutch issue. We'll see... |

was the cross shaft still ok- sounds like the side gears were loose if the seals went out. kind of makes you think the carrier is hogged out.

I think I might have a winner... the clutch packs on both sides are worn VERY unevenly. To tell the truth I have never seen what they should look like but every bit of common engineering knowledge I have says that these aren't right. I can't post a pic at the moment because my computer took a dump and I am on my old archaic one that doesn't have a card reader. |

Some random pics from the day... I'll do a full write up once I actually get the parts to get it back together.
Entire underside covered in rear end grease Exhaust dripping with rear end grease... smelled fantastic as well. Hard to see, but very uneven wear on clutches... Best invention... EVAR! |

Of all the wrenching I've done over the years, I've never torn into a differential. Kudos. |

I will say that I would like to find the engineer that designed the snap rings on the yokes and punch him in the junk. |
