If you had read the post where I described the process, then you would understand that the "large timber" is not a beam. As such, does not require mortise joinery. That type of connection, simplified to take advantage of modern screw technology, was used in the posts.

I built my entire timber frame without nails.
Every joint was pegged with oak dowels.
I was just razzing you!

Pictures are now required.

I built my vacation home primarily with paid subcontractors, while living/ working 100 miles away. So my typical routine was to take most of every Friday off, drive up with my GC, inspect and write checks. Knowing that I would only be on site about 2-3 hours per week, I designed the project to be as simple as possible.

I've always admired timber framed homes, but my GC advised me against traditional joinery. The issue here is that the skilled labor pool has a reputation for being dopers, and thus can't be relied upon to be at the job when you need them to be.

So I designed the house as a sort of hybrid, large members only for the exposed posts, center beams and simple Western framing on the remaining. To assemble the timbers, I designed screwed or bolted connections, including Simpson hidden beam hangers.

I will scan and post tomorrow.
No pun intended.

You can peek at my garage until then.

Then I cut the large pine timber, got a helper to get it into position, and used all hidden timber screws for the install. Then I made the pine timber railing, installed it along with the steel balusters and maple handrail.
So, you actually did not build the stairway.

I may be convinced to smoke some rope, but if you want some root smooched, you'll have to call on Hiney.

He never claimed to have, that I could tell. He drew the plans and hired it done.

Now he's over on the sheet carrier thread moving the goalposts because he was proven wrong on the bed lengths.
