Default Vegan Diet-Non meat eaters

Anyone living the vegan lifestyle? The latest articles and connections between the PPI's to dementia and Alzheimer's has me wanting to get off the Nexium. These longer term studies, I'm also reading have a direct link to renal failure, and bone density loss.

I made the switch 10 days ago, not too much of a difference really in my eating habits except not eating anything with eyes.

Are you a vegan or a vegetarian? Vegan seems a lot harder to do. Eating cheese, butter, and eggs to supplement the vegetables, fruits and grains, seems like it would be a little easier to handle.

Good luck. I've known one or two people who went Vegan due to medical issues. It worked for them.

Full blown vegan, cold turkey. There's all kinds of info out there now and everyone has their own preferences. Some of what I read, put cheeses at the top of the list of what NOT to eat. This is all stemming from a conversation I had with a close friend, who was experiencing all the same symptoms and problems I've been having. He's been vegan for a year off the PPI's and sleeps lying down! I have to give it a try....I think nice piece of fish might be the one thing I'll miss the most.

My wife has been a hardcore vegan for 10 years or more. Our food at home has all been vegan for that time, although I would occasionally get a turkey sandwich if we were out someplace, but I eventually gave that up. I eventually gave up all meat & dairy products 100%.

Both of us had been on BP medicines, and neither of need it any longer. Both of our cholesterol, triglyceride, etc., levels went down into "desirable" ranges.

For us, there were too many health implications to ignore. We've watched many of the food-related documentaries, which are admittedly one-sided, but it's hard to ignore one in which the researchers could turn cancerous tumors on & off in lab rats by the presence or absence of casein in their diets.

One documentary mentioned that you probably couldn't design a food that would be worse for you than cheese. I loved cheese products, but the cravin gwent away a month or 2 after giving it up.

It's easy for some to trot out all the drivel that "If god didn't want us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them so tasty!", "People weren't made to exist on a plant-based diet", "You can't get enough protein in a vegan diet", etc. Good for a laugh or reaction on an internet forum, but still just drivel.

Do what you want but make sure you end up with all the nutrients your body needs.

There's plenty of room for all of God's creatures.

My daughter is one of them weirdos, dunno what happened, but she been one for some 20 years, she claims....According to what yawl say above, she is a vegetarian.......from what my wife sez.....

All I know is that she dropped 150 bux here in the food store because WE did not know what to buy.....loaded up the fridge, and left it all behind, we been sorting through it, kind of silly I think, but something that wasn't all that bad was some sort of bean burger....given the burger meat we get here, it's just as good.....but Wattaburger across the street is far superior....
