Default U2 Spy Plane shuts down computer system

Don't you sometimes wish you were in the Top Secret loop for stuff. I didn't even think they had these planes flying anymore.

U-2 spy plane caused widespread shutdown of U.S. flights: report

The U2 was never intended to be "undetectable". It was originally designed to fly so high that it would be out of range of known Soviet anti aircraft weapons.
The Soviets eventually designed the SA-2 missile which had enough range to reach it. That is what they used to shoot down Francis Gary Powers over Russia on May 1rst 1960, and I believe that is what was used to shoot down the other U2 over Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis two years later. As far as I know, those were the only two U-2's that were shot down by enemy fire.

The U-2's successor, the SR-71, was built to fly high and very fast (mach 3+), and it had a low radar cross section. No SR-71's were ever shot down by enemy fire.

Blackbird was a bad motherfker.

It was on a flight plan, so it had the transponder on.

Sounds to me like that bonehead move set off some kind of counter measures routine in the U2.

U2s have been flying over the Southland for the last 50 years without causing these issues. The U2 overflight is more than likely a cover story for what was probably a "black project" flight.

Yeah, but I can't wait to see someone snag a pic of the SR-71 Replacement. It took over 10 years before the public saw the F-117. It was flying long before that
