Default WWVBOTD?

I have a non working Bose wave radio....basically a glorified clock radio that was given to me by my parents. It's been broken for years, and years ago, I called and tried to have Bose direct me to someone in Houston that would fix it. They basically told me to pound sand, the thing is too old. I used it for years as my alarm clock, so there's that. I've also used my TV and phone as a substitute.

Fast forward. I'm doing some year end clean up and I again think of the radio, sitting in my kitchen, not working. Ebay has a couple of listings for, "you send us your old Bose radio, and we'll fix it and send it back to you for $ 100." Both repair guys, one in MI, one in CA are highly rated. I'm guessing it will cost me $30 or so to box this one up and ship it. Pro: I'll have THE radio my parents gave me back. Sentimental value to that.

And while I'm looking, I see a seller very near by has the exact same radio, described as fully functional....basically exactly what I have, for $ 80. I'm considering contacting them and seeing if they will do a local sale. Pro: Cheaper than the first option. Con: It WON'T be the radio my parents gave me.

And more searching reveals used models that come with CD players. These are significantly more expensive, although most of them are sold with the CD player not functioning. The same repair guys offer to fix the CD equipped model for$ 200, including shipping.

I could buy another used unit with functioning CD player and have something nicer than what I had. Pro: Nicer radio. Con: Not THE radio my parents gave me.

I could buy a cd equipped radio with a non functioning CD player (they're cheap), then pay the $ 200 plus my shipping cost to have someone else's radio fixed. Pro: I'll have the upgraded version at a cheaper cost, but more complicated, although I'll already have the shipping box, so that will make sending it to the repair guys cheaper. Con: Not THE radio my parents gave me.

So, WWVBD?

I, too, got a Bose wave radio as a gift a long time ago. It's just a radio and sounds garbage compared to even the cheap stuff you can find today. It's no heirloom, no reason to attach sentimentality to it, the fact you're considering a straight up swap already tells you that you won't lose sleep over tossing it in the bin.
Any repair you go with will put in parts that your parents didn't give you, anyway.
In short, grow a pair and don't replace a crap radio with the same crap radio. Keep the broken thing if you want to keep it as a shelf decoration because be honest with yourself, do you actually plan on using it to play music?

My iPod broke, can somebody here fix it? Once that’s working I need to get the bag phone repaired.

My 80's era 5 cd changer died, and I ended up buying a similar vintage whole Technics rack system including speakers for a couple hundred bucks, and had to drive across town to get it. Poached the cd changer for my main system and set up the rest in my office.

Still use both systems, and yes, I am still enjoying my cassette tape collection, thanks for asking.
