Default Any wood burners here?

FWIW: A "wood stove" is something you use to cook meals on.

A "wood heater" is something you use to warm your house.

If you don't believe me, ask your grandpa.

My wood was burning once, but a round of penicillin made it stop.

I loved woodburning in the Cub Scouts and it taught me valuable lessons about thermodynamics and 9 year old skin.

You could probably get away with eggs, but if you need a lot of heat like for boiling water, sauteing or something similar, most wood heaters don't get that hot on the top, unlike a stove which is designed to.

I use my coal heater (I use wood in milder weather) for defrosting or for keeping things warm all the time -- works great for that.

I never realized that firewood is such a huge business.
There are 100’s of YouTube channels that spend most of their time making videos about cutting and splitting firewood.

I will say that there are some really nice pieces of equipment, some cut and split and conveyor the logs. It’s impressive.

I think I may be a pyromaniac. Burning cherrywood is the best after mahogany, but the price of mahogany is bananas so the only time I burned it was left over stuff after carpentry / deck work. I started off with a little chiminea but my obsession with burning things was a cause of grave concern for my Jewish wife.

I used to burn documents in a big ole steel bucket with a gallon of gas as it was easier than shredding, but then I moved on to the chiminea and then we had a little fireplace setup built outside during the government flu lockdown. Get a bunch of wood delivered every spring, but go through a lot.

I read the firewood section on Reddit. OMG the ignorance is astounding. I'm surprised 3/4 of them haven't burned their houses down already.

They've all got "moisture meters," I guess you stick them in the end of the wood and it tells you the percentage of moisture left in it. HAS TO BE 20% OR LOWER OR THE WORLD WILL COME TO AN END. ****ing ridiculous. I never knew such a gadget existed until last fall when I started reading that subreddit. Not sure how me, several buddies, my uncles, cousins, ever got by without a "moisture meter." I don't need one to tell when a woman is moist either.

I've been using wood all my life to get cheap or free heat. One reason I bought the place where I am in '81 was because I have my own woods -- so free firewood. I've saved untold thousands in heating bills, although I never even had a furnace until 2010. These guys spend so much money on equipment that it's hardly worth the effort. May as well just turn the thermostat up.

I've been staying away from that r/ place because I was pissing too many people off, lol. Not trying to be insulting, condescending, or an ass, but the stupidity is just astounding and I had to comment.

Oh well, we all come out of the womb knowing nothing.

hell ya, burning now...already went through a cord and a half over the last couple of months. I keep it going pretty much all day and all night, ****in' pyro.

Ours is not a woodstove, but huge and from the eighties with a blower (flattop is probably 3 feet wide by 1.5 feet deep). You could use it as a cook top

I split about 3 cords in early '23 then paid the price with 4 herniated discs, kinda screwed up my gameplan on splitting more wood too.

Just had the chimney sweep out to check both of our fireplaces. Neither were installed correctly and one of them has never had a fire lit in it. I’m gonna order a half a rick of blackjack tomorrow and pop her cherry ..
