Default We Plant in Hope

Got Linda's last two new plants put in the ground today. A rhododendron and a crepe myrtle. both plants she likes, and both plants that will take several years to reach maturity. So i dig, add good soil to the holes, add fertilizer, and add water from our rainwater cisterns. and we wait and hope that they will grow well in the coming years.

“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit.”

I have a crepe myrtle my ex wife insisted we plant, next to the house. It was supposed to be a dwarf, but after a quarter century, it is up to the windows on the second story.

We planted 2 crape myrtles about 10 years ago, last year or so, we are getting some really nice looking dark red pedals around July through August.

There's a stretch of US 13 from about the MD/VA line south to Cape Charles that has those planted everywhere, that is one gorgeous ride. Nothing but this for 10's of 10's of miles, all colors.

she had planted several at our old house in MD, some near the mailbox, once they got going, they were spectacular and then you could decide how to prune them - into a tree shape, or more of a bush shape.

new one is only about 16" tall now. but pot says 8-20 feet.

..... just checked, still about 16" tall...... hurry up!!!

some 20 years ago, wife and I planted 4 crape myrtles around the house....PINK and white in front, since given birth to another pinko......and two along the back fence BRIGHT RED and white.....they all grown very well, especially the one on the tree lawn out front....gotta be 40-50' tall.....and VERY wide, full of limbs down to the base.....

the large one in front is used to hang lots of plants/flowers from, bird feeders too....nice bark too......

Patience grasshopper.

Give it a few more days. After all, GOD spent six days on his creation and rested the seventh.
