no one made Gary create this place that we all enjoy. many have taken money out of our pockets to support this website as well as other endeavors that have cropped up over time.

if he doesn't want to have this website continue, that is his prerogative. there are other options available if we still want one place to gather each day and trade stories.

i'm saddened that he took my money, sent in good faith, and will just pocket it. i'm hopeful that whatever we come up with going forward will be more open about costs if donations are sought.

I wish we had a statement from Gary and from Y2K about what is going on here. Even if we reincarnate as vettebarn.com, I hate that there's latent hostility going on, and I don't even know what it's all about.

If it was cost or an issue of unreimbursed time spent on tech maintenance, I wish that issue had been broached when it first became a problem. It seems there are turnkey resources available. I'm assuming that just means an admin or mod dashes off an e-mail to the host's tech support? If it was losing money, an appeal for money seems like it would have been answered by many.

The fact that the owner never populated this with ads led me to believe that this was much like DAB's woodworking, a hobby, not a for profit business.

I know I don't have a right to demand an explanation, but I can respectfully ask for one, right?

a public post to all: "hi, Gary here, i'm tired of running this place, and i don't want to put another minute or dime into it. if you want to assume running it, great. if not, it goes dark in 30 days." but all we had was a short lived post with an email addy, that is not being replied to per Sea Six.

He finally did reply back two days later with a rejection of my offer and a firm stance at $5,000.

Gary, if you're reading this, nobody including me is going to either personally buy or go in with a group buy at that price.

It's just not worth it. At that price it makes way more sense to start a new, albeit completely empty, website that's hosted for practically nothing per month.

Ive made a concerted effort to scare up some cash from the only people that would place ANY value on this place - the 41 members that post here on a regular basis. Yes, you heard that right- 41. That's it. I went back and counted the regular posters.

And I contacted them. I only got about a couple of hundred dollars. And that's on top of the $1,000 I offered. It's going to cost about $500 to move it to a place that won't charge us $3,000 per year to host it.

So Gary, the only person who thinks this place is worth $5000 is you.

Enjoy your site because after 31 March it's all yours.

We are moving on.

the frills are fun, but are not essential. game room is fun, but the interaction is why we are here. I can do without funny smilies, or funny monikers, or a sweep clock, or points, or other adornments.

Plenty of online sites have flash games that are WAY better than the gameroom here. I like the gameroom, don't get me wrong, but I come here because of you people...not to play let it ride.

This place is like a little online family, it's an anomaly in the internet world. Also, I am all in for using WOEII's site. He offered, it's already there, what the hell? May as well start now?

Something is only worth what someone will pay. He had a standing offer and shit on it.

Now, I understand the capital energy and work that went into creating this place, and he feels that it's worth more than the offer, I get that...but this site has no tangible value outside of the people that use it on a daily basis. Perhaps if it generated some revenue, maybe. But sheesh.
