I don’t closely follow CFB, so riddle me this: If the PAC-12 is so great, why are the best teams leaving it? Is it driven by money or something else?

All about the TV contracts, now that Big 10 will be coast to coast they will make a shit ton more money... Hell wasn't it Maryland who paid 6 or 7 mil to leave their old conference as they'd make it up in just a couple of years?
