2 officers killed, third wounded while seeking suspect at Florida home - CNN.com

Three police officers -- two St. Petersburg, Florida, officers and a deputy U.S. marshal -- were shot and wounded while serving an arrest warrant on a St. Petersburg home, authorities said.

All three officers were taken to a local hospital after the incident, which occurred just before 7 a.m., St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz said.

The marshal was in stable condition, Puetz told reporters, while the police officers were in critical condition.

The suspect remained inside the home, and authorities have heard nothing from him in nearly an hour, since the last gun volley with officers, Puetz said just after 10 a.m.

The three were trying to serve a felony warrant on charges of aggravated battery, said Puetz and U.S. Marshals spokesman Jeff Carter.

"Additional law enforcement have responded, and there is an ongoing barricade situation involving the fugitive," Carter said in a statement.

From Florida, to Detroit, to Organ ... violence against police officers was ramped up over the last several days ... put a gun in a not-jobs hands, and see their ball grow exponentially.

Well I'm going to go out on a limb here, but .... anyone who thinks nothing of shooting a Professional Law Enforcement Officer, probably wouldn't give a second thought to shooting Joe Weekend Target Shooter bringing groceries home.

While these events are tragic, and the cluster of events in such a small window of time compounds that tragedy, it is simply that....a cluster of random events. I doubt it will be proven that this is some kind of coordinated attack on LEOs.

It's no different than when for no apparent reason, there are more murders or muggings than usual in the country in a certain week. Ebb and flow.
