Our neighborhood usually has dueling barrages of fireworks, one cul-de-sac will set a few of the big boys off, then another will fire up theirs. Started when the sun went down and usually lasted till 11 PM. We participated a few years ago but this year we'll enjoy the neighbors.

It used to be illegal in GA. and was more fun then. We would make a run up to TN. or ALA. and buy a truckload in those days. A couple of yrs. ago they legalized it here. Took a lot of the fun out of it. I may buy a couple of small things. I don't care for the huge booms, etc...anymore. I have some friends in the biz. that put on the large shows for $$$

So we live next to the local high-school and there's a football field, soccer field and baseball field and some bleachers. Every year it's a popular spot for setting off fireworks on Canada Day. Yesterday was no exception. As soon as the sun went down people were out there setting off their fireworks and as usual we got a free show from our backyard.

At some point people were actually shooting roman candles AT the school. No surprise there people do stupid shit all the time. But unbeknownst to me that caused someone to call the cops.

So I had waited a while because I like it to be really dark for better viewing. Two of my sons were there with their girlfriends, and a bunch of their friends and a bunch of neighbors. Mrs flex stayed home in the backyard to watch. Some other dude saw us setting up and he had a whole box of fireworks too and just said here, you can add these too. Wow.

I'm out there half drunk (started drinking at 3pm), beer in hand (illegal) and setting up my fireworks (also illegal now) and two cops come walking up. I haven't even started yet. I just turn around and see them and say "oh boy".

Amazingly they were very chill, mentioned they got a report of someone shooting fireworks at the school. I told them I saw that too but it wasn't me. They look at the boxes of fireworks and make a comment that I got a lot and I don't say anything. They look and see I have a big bucket of sand and they said "well, looks like you know what you're doing" and they just left.


Amazeballs. Cops here are usually power-tripping little kunts. These guys were mad cool.

So we start our little show then one of my neighbors comes up and tells me some woman was bitching and told him she just called the cops because she's trying to get her kids to sleep. It' not even 11pm on a holiday.


So I yelled out "**** YOU KAREN!!!" and kept the show going and after I lit every subsequent set of fireworks I yelled out "**** YOU KAREN!!!"

Actually ended up being a nice little show and everyone enjoyed it. Got a message form my neighbor this morning thanking me and he said his son kept asking him "Who's' Karen?" LMFAO.

Also after the fireworks show I had some brisket that had been on my grill all day and some home-made potato salad Mrs Flex made.

Best Canada Day in a long time.

Years ago when I was still living at my parents house (17 years old), there was a field near our neighborhood where people would go to watch fireworks set of by the city. One year a group of about 8 of us went and split up on opposite sides of the field. We started launching bottle rockets at each other across the field. People freaked out.

When we were young (elementary school) my friend and I built a fort out of cardboard boxes on my back porch. My friend's older brother then launched bottle rockets at the fort while we hid inside.

Florida (Lee County? I don't know at what level) just allowed us to have fireworks without agricultural waivers. Having said that, July 4th is the worst day of the year for my dog. She hates the loud noises. While I can afford to go BIG and put on a good show, I can't do that to Cricket.

Fletch is terrified of thunder, lightening, gun shots and fireworks. When the tornado warnings or amber alerts are on tv he heads to the bathroom. I have his thunder shirt and anxiety meds ready.
