I don't know what those people were trying to say.

I know first hand (because of the wife) that people have died from this and my wife is treating new cases now.

DUHHHH.....Watt they are saying is that the death rate from THIS overplayed virus is not as bad as past 'invasions'........over the last 30+ years.....

not downplaying the fact that folks die from it/complications/etc.....BUT that the HARD NUMBERS do not back up the hysterics the media/gov are creating over it.......

SO NYC lost maybe 5000 folks, damn tragedy....but out of some 3 MILLION living there???

I guess at the end of the day we will probably never know if it is/was/would have been as bad as predicted because if/when the final numbers show the deaths not significantly higher than the usual flu season the MSM and government will say it's because of all the measures that were taken and it could have been a lot worse and we will never really know.

And this will form the basis for the next time. So get used to this annually, folks.

The flip side is that if we really do have the death toll they predict then it will be proof all this was for nothing and you can't stop nature.

So it's kinda ****ed either way, no?

Flex, I hear you man.....

I think it's commie based psych warfare more than anything else, trying to destroy the North American economy......

OUR JOB at this point is to turn it around and use this as a cannon to destroy the commie economies.....pull our purchasing from them......let them starve.....

in 2017, official deaths -CDC verified- from the flu were
80,000; just in the US.

Why didn't we limit freedoms and prang the economy back then?

What's missing in every news report is... a comparison with past flu viruses (SARS, H1N1, Asian Influenza, ...) at this exact stage of infection.

Why withhold the comparison stats ? Because it doesn't live up to the hype being handed out; the major news outlets would look like fools. Covid19 is a little worse, but barely.

Who remembers the Y2K computer software crisis? So yeah, the world didn't come to an end on 1/1/2000; does that mean the problem was overblown?

I agree man. So far, the numbers are no where near the hype. Been saying it for weeks.

I have found that local news outlets are more realistic; but national news orgs are just hype crazy.

The Feds are leaving Houston. That tells me their "next hot spot" prediction was way off.

The predicted problems were WAY overblown as history shows.

I remember it. I bought ZZ Top tickets last minute from a scalper at way below face, and sat in nice, lower prom seats. The concert was well attended, but apparently enough people were scared off that tickets were plentiful for a something that otherwise would have been hard to get and super expensive.

Think about that.....ZZ Top? In Houston? On New Year's Eve? No way should tickets have been available, especially for cheap. We had a great time. Thanks, easily frightened people!

Maybe they decided it wasn't worth saving.

I was tending bar at our local country club. Great party and all my friends were there. I wasn't worried, because midnight had already come to many time zones without any problems.

A friend of mine got a crazy good price on a Cruise in the Greek islands and when the clock struck 12 he was on an airplane to Istanbul with his girlfriend. He was a retired Navy submariner, so not much scared him.

When I rewrote our software in 1990, I planned for the Y2K. Non of my clients were affected.

There was a massive effort to refactor all kinds of ancient software in the months preceding Y2K - an effort that was successful for the most part. Thanks to that heroic effort the world didn't come to a screeching halt - which is why some people think there was never an issue.

Revising software is “heroic?”
