Why do you think in general raises are frozen, seems like the economy and tech company revenues are booming

Greed

Some owners are "crying the blues" about costs while raking in excellent profits.

Interested in Thomas' opinion. He's CLEARLY an awesome, dedicated asset to this company. They need to recognize it. We are at historic unemployment rates. He can leave in a heartbeat for greener pastures.

Unemployment is 2 points below where what it was during the '00 Y2K tech bubble. Those who can should probably find their best opps. IBM bought more time with me.

20 years ago this would be true. But commercial nuclear power is struggling, plants are closing and the labor pool is flush with talent. Nuclear is a different animal. Many of the jobs that exist in this industry exist ONLY in this industry which limit opportunities to a certain degree.

I was an independent contractor for several years. Without question the money was better but the job security was absolute shit.

All that being true, yes I could probably make more money but it'd require relocation which I'm not willing to do at 56 years old. If I *Had* to I would however.

BTW - We hit Mode 3 last night. 'Hot Standby.' Won't be long now.

spent 8 years in that industry. you are correct, many jobs only exist in that industry. plants are closing, not opening. the economics say no more will open any time soon. oil, coal, gas are cheap. nuke plants are too expensive and take too long to build.

Congratulations on the raise. Glad some are supporting the economy and the tit suckers. I retired at 49 years old.

Mode 1 today at 0400. Rolled the turbine at 1800 RPM, expected to sync to the grid on my shift tonight. Almost done.

You headed Georgia way next to work on what is probably the only active N plant construction in the Country? If so, please PM me your thoughts on the condition of a plant that's 5 years and 1B (yes Billion) over time and budget, which was started by a now bankrupt contractor. I am no activist or reporter but I live close enough to the thing that I am dead if if grenades. I worry about such things as concrete pours by unpaid subs and rusty rebar degrading the integrity of even good pours, not to mention what might have been overlooked
during erection of the pressure vessels and reactor core.

I have a good friend at Vogtle right now. He’s from Barnwell.

Yup. Westinghouse went tits up. The cost overruns were absolutely ridiculous. In the BILLIONS.

Wiz, because we can.....

Thomas, Other than green weenies who are against almost everything they have no clue about in the tech sector, just WHY, in the large pix, is the nuclear industry in trouble in this nation?? makes no sense to me.....like up the road a piece, just off I95 on the left as heading south, just south of the Ga. border, WAS a power plant with two classic designed stacks that looked like a nukey plant, but was changed out for COAL decades ago during construction FPL, I think....at any rate I was stone shocked that was done when I heard about it 20 years ago, and now they leveled the towers and the entire plant.....I just can't imagine the sheer stoooooopidity of such a move some decades ago, much less imagine WHY the nukey industry should be in such trouble...makes no sense, do you have any insight on the technical asspects as to WHY this happened?? OR is my blaming it on green weenies just about accurate...???

As you can guess, I am totally PRO nuclear power, as many of the plants I visited, from Goodyear Atomic on down to a plant here in Florida, down the road a bit....(Lauderdale?) some 30 years ago were the best/most fun places ever as being an old tech head I just walked around with a GRIN on my face during the entire visit.....

NOW for a funny story, I was a field tech rep for a walk through metal detector company, INTEX, Bethesda Md.....Scanray made the typical Xray machines, so we at airports/nukey plants, jails, White House, .gov buildings, and so at Goodyear our machines were in constant alarm, and one of the guys from plant manager on down the list, including our company engineering team could figger out WTF, and so being head field tech rep, some months later, I got a call from the head man at Goodyear Atomic, so after some words of reacquaintance he explained what was bugging our gear only in DRY weather, not when raining.....

The entire nuclear fuel processing center was NOT GROUNDED!@!!!!!....my first reply after hearing him say that was 'BULLSHIT!!' and the office secretary flinched BADLY upon overhearing my language with a customer....

So after the laughter died down over the phone, and me hearing his explanation of how that happened, I about shit......and I asked what they did to GROUND a manufacturing plant THAT size, he said they drilled a hole and planted a rod from HELL and put a cable the size of a boxcar on it, .....

My reply was they probably took it clean through to China, and put a nut on it over there, and told the Chinese to not touch that nut......it's got high voltage on it......

I know you going to say BS to that tale, but I swear it's true....it was a month before I stopped laughing over it.....
