Default Do you have Earthquake insurance on your home?
I'm not sure if I just hear about them more often now, but it seems like we're having more and more earthquakes. We have had a few in Oklahoma this year. One was strong enough it shook my building at work.

It's my understanding that most home owners insurance doesn't cover earthquakes (at least in Oklahoma.) I've considered adding it in the past. I think I might call to get a quote on Monday.

Anyone carry it on their house? Any idea how much it cost?

We added additional insurance for wind due to all the hurricanes that break up and hit GA as tropical storms in the late summer/fall but thats it.

That's what people say here too. IMO, all the drilling for oil and natural gas is causing an increase in earthquakes.

If it's not to expensive, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

i highly doubt it. don't have flood insurance either.

it's nice to live in a fairly disaster free zone....aka, the mid west....knock on wood

No insurance needed here for earthquakes ! You just have to be careful of White Pointers and crocodiles that can kill you ! Stewy

I didn't have EQ insurance at first. Then we had a huge swarm of earthquakes totaling over 5000 quakes over a several month period (scary shit). I bought EQ insurance just before a moratorium was put in place. It increased my premium just under 40%. Well worth it for the piece of mind.

Yeah, we added it onto our policy about six months after we bought our home. The out-of-pocket deductible (10% down) is a mofo, but at least you can get your crib rebuilt should worse come to worse.
