Very nice bike! Lights and everything. Non-factory rear sprocket, understandable.
Damn, 11,000 miles on an old 70's enduro would be brutal.
I rode several back in the day.
I believe it comes from the factory with a compression release? maybe it came in later models?

That thing was never driven on the dirt, I'll say that. Had a friend with a DT400 and it was a great bike. I had a few, but never a DT. Had an IT monoshocker and an RD350 street bike. 2 strokes ruled in the '60's and '70's!

Nice bike!

I am selling an '86 Yamaha Maxim X in just about as good a condition with 6900 miles on it. Bought from the original owner some years ago.

700 cc, 4 cylinder, 5 valves/head, liquid cooled, shaft driven etc.

Love those old bikes!

I rode a Yamaha "Big Bear" back in the day - a cantankerous beast to tune and maintain, but crack the throttle and she would sure scoot !

The 360 wasn't bad without using the compression release, however, I used it the most of the time.

The baddest kickback I ever got from a dirt bike was a Maico 400, nasty.

A friend had an SR500 single. Another compression release affair.

The thing with the Japanese bikes was that they always DID start.

The Spanish and British bikes, not so much

There's a great youtube channel home movie called "Cycles South" from 1971 that features 3 high school friends riding their BSA 441's to Mexico from Colorado for an adventure before college. They end up lunching the bottom ends of the Beezers (of course) in Texas and end up with Kawasaki 175s that are far superior to the large, heavy, and brittle Brit bikes. It's a great way to spend an hour if you grew up in the 70's riding like a lot of us did.

A Greeves Griffin 380 spit me over the bars on kickback... tore the meniscus.
I ice raced it a bit after the surgery, but it hurt every time I started it.

No compression release. You get to kick full compression.

I used to have that exact same cycle. LOTS of fun playing in the mud

Now that I look at that year, it could be a Preston Petty front fender on that too.

I had a 73 brand new. Great bike.
11k miles was way to many back then on those old 2 strokes.
The jugs and pistons would be gone as was the case with this one.
Beautiful bike, didn't realize they can be worth that much.

BTW
Check out this site for crazy detailed descriptions on pretty much all models.
