Michelin Pilot Super Sport 17"/18" going on my 00' C5 next week
The plan is to get these tires on my 00' vert that is pretty much stock at stock ride height and on OEM polished wheels. The tire sizes are;
245/40ZR17 & 285/35ZR18 These are as close to OEM sizes/rake and should work fine. I will post up how they work and of course pics as well I am also going to Michelin’s first Influencer Tire School this month! They are very excited about the launch of the new following tires: MICHELIN Defender tire BFGoodrich g-force Sport Comp-2 tire (April replace the KDW2???) Michelin’s goal is to familiarize us with their company and to meet some of the people who work behind the scenes to create the Michelin and BFGoodrich tire products What (School Highlights): • “Talking About Tires” seminar • Tire manufacturing plant tour • Behind the wheel tire testing at BMW Performance Center I will report back and have some pics as well |

Here they are installed:
Note, prior owner did the wheel scrapes........they stick like glue and none of the 4 wheels needed any weight! For the first ~100 miles they will kick up rocks like an R compound I tested after and it was all |

We didn't get to try them, but here are some links to some info:
g-Force Sport COMP-2 | BFGoodrich Tires BFGoodrich g-Force Sport Comp-2 Tire Test - Motor Trend These are suppose to be made in the same plant as the PSSs..........very secretive and many folks can't take a look |

John is xraying them. He was telling me about the production process and moulding. He wanted to know how they rode. We have the BFG KDW's on the vette and he said he would probably get the new ones when we need tires on the vette.

We toured US1, but I want to see Prime As for the PSS tire ride, it was no worse than any other fully treaded performance or regular tire and I have been on many. I put over 600 miles on these so far in heavy rain at speed, at speed, etc and they were rock solid as I knew they would be. Much quieter than the KDW2 due to smaller tread blocks I had heard/ read some folks thought they were a little rougher taking potholes, elevation transitions, etc but I found them no worse than Toyo RA1s, Bridgestone's, BFGs, etc. and actually better in worse holes! I am sure the use of Twaron stiffens the ride a little, but I will take a firm consistent contact patch in all conditions vs a softer ride any day. |

I don't know about "prime", just the Tuscaloosa plant. John was a 2nd step builder for years and when Michelin bought BFG they installed the xray department and John went to xray.
L trivia---my grandmother retired from the BFG plant here. She was one of the first women hired and she worked on the automatic tire building machines. She is 89 years old. |

Ok, all is clear now. Prime is in SC, not far from US1.
Hopefully you get a good tire discount when buying within the Michelin family too! Cool history, lots of work go into keep all that machinery up and running |

30% mail in discount on up to 8 tires per year. It doesn't matter where they are purchased from.
J can order and purchase up to 12 tires per year at a discounted price on the employee discount tire program which is basically like clearance or over stocked tires. We have had good luck with this program. We got the kdw's from here. John said last night that the plant is having a big promotion/celebration event next month to launch the new sport comp2 tire and that management from headquarters is coming. |

OK tire guys - for those of us who need to look for new tires for a stock C5 or C6 what's the good ticket?
I need some new rubber for my 08 and I want to stay with runflats but want something that doesn't sound like a 4WD. |

Well you know what I'll say, Michelin or BFG. I know where the paycheck comes from.

If you want to stay with rfs, the choice is limited. I would pick anything but Goodyear, they never lasted and drove poorly. I have not tested Michelins RF technology, but if it is like the PSSs ( I am told it is) I would pick the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP in OEM sizes unless you have a lot of cold weather and want longer tread life the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP might be better. FYI if you didn't know, some of the C6 Z06 & ZR1 models run a Michelin Pilot Sport Cup ZP (Track & Competition DOT) and the above PS2 ZP PS, the Michelin Michelin Promise Plan warranty is hard to beat: The Michelin Promise Plan |

Just ordered a set of 19/20" Super Sports, should have them by Friday.
Now that you've had yours a while, I trust you are still pleased with them? I never considered Michelins much in the past, because they used to be so damn expensive compared to many decent alternatives, but that seems to have changed. What I ordered today were reasonably priced for the sizes I need, a bit more than the Asian brands, sure, but not in the stratosphere like Pirelli. I've had Pzero's on the car since 2003, and I always described them as merely "ok" tires. No real complaints, but nothing outstanding about them either. Certainly not impressive enough to spend $550 per tire on them today. |

As I have posted before, I have NEVER owned a Michelin tire before for the very reason you state above… I have used more than a few BFGs though! Being a traditional skeptic, when I was given the literature and spoke with the tire designers, it just sounded too good to be true I have never been impressed with the handling difference between ANY quality street tire………….until the PSS came out and I tried it. The cost has come down as they are narrowing their tire line and are LISTENING to their consumers and their feedback. More than a few of us “Influencers’” were critical of their pricing structure so I like to think this helped them stand back and look at the big picture. Much quieter than the KDW2 due to smaller tread blocks but with a thin convertible top, I noticed a very faint tire whine with these on certain roads. Most folks would never hear it so I would classify it as a non-issue. I look forward to your feedback after some fun on the twisty roads wet or dry as the grip will be………… well you tell me what you didn’t like |

Vette Barn nOOb
|
325\30\19 rear and 275\35\18 front is what I run now, toyo888s in the summer no problem at all, in fact they're fantastic. I'll never go less wide. Next I'll go for the Michelin super sports, for the street. same sizes. I'm using Grand Sport wheels right now oem wheels painted black. Same size as the C6 Z06, but I feel like my C5z might out handle my C6Z with C6Z rims and these non run flat tires.! I'm looking into some new coil over shock suspension. Pfadt? Suggestions?
