Default Removing Paint and clearing..

I have the MCM Hood. The original owner had the whole hood painted to match, but I would really like the the center sanded and re-cleared to have the CF showing thru. Is it possible to do this with out ruining the CF, if it would at all... now the next possible issue is when they remove the paint to get to the CF can it be done so there is a straight line (between the CF and the Yellow) or will they have to repaint the yellow to make the straight line... hope the question makes sense...lol

What in your experience would this cost ball park?

Just a shot in the dark here.... But if the hood has been painted I would think they sanded the CF before they painted it so who knows what you may find under there. I honestly don't know if you can get CF to look the same once it's been sanded.

The MCM hood came in two versions. One with a solid gelcoat finish and one with the exposed CF in the center of the high rise section. If you have the solid gelcoat version you don't have any CF to sand down to.

You could really make a mess of the hood looking for CF.

Sure you can. The resin used is the same as clear coat paint basically.
Wet sand, and polish, just as you would normally.

I would assume you would be alright, although I'm a n00b when it comes to paint and body work. The entire hood (minus the crossbraces) is CF, which is just CF weave cloth and resin. With mine, I had the center section gelcoated so the CF would be visible. I assume if you sanded down carefully, you could get back to the CF area but would have to be very careful not to sand too much. I think you'd need a repaint anyway, since the CF will need to be cleared or it will look like Just my $0.02, but what do I know!

The intent is to sand down past the paint to the CF and have it recleared so the CF is showing, but I obviously dont want to ruin the CF so when its cleared it looks like ***. Guess I need to get to a reputable body shop and talk with them see what they have to say...thanks for the info guys1
