Default iPod Mount??

I have a C5 and am fishing for ideas on how to mount my iPod Touch so i can see it yet it's not in the way of anything and wont go flying if I accidentally hit the accelerator to hard or some fun twisties.

As always, pics are a plus.

Thanks

I decided to try this route for starters. Ordered the iPod mount and a travel buddy today.. If I don't like it I'm not out much plus my wife has been crabbin for a cup holder for her bottled water. Hopefully everything will get here and I can get it in by the weekend.

Let me know how you like once you had a chance to use it.

I got all the pieces for my iPod project today... took about 2 minutes to hook it up and all I can say is WOW! It's like having a new stereo in the car, it totally rocks now! Everything sounds better, bass is definitely better and it's just all around cool. If you want to improve the sound of your stock C5 system, try the iPod to car first.

I will take some pics of it later this weekend after I get done driving around like a teenager with the stereo blastin!

Munch...what's involved in hooking up an ipod to a C5 stereo? What interface did you purchase to do the job?

I used the iPod2Car by Peripheral Electronics model PDXP. It uses different harnesses to connect to either the back of your factory head unit or in my case to the cable for the CD changer in the back of the car. You can skip, FF or Rew songs with the buttons on the head unit and it also charges your iPod as well. Newer iPods and iPhones need the latest model ipod2car and a special cable though.

I got mine here for about $100 shipped but you can get them cheaper on ebay or so I hear.

There are some pretty lengthy threads over on CF about it as well.

OK, got my iPod installed and everything turned out great. Mounted the adapter where the CD changer used to be and ran the wire under the carpet to the center console and in to the ashtray. I had the travel buddy setup but wasn't liking it too much so I put it where the ashtray goes. Plus I wanted to have the iPod sideways so I could watch videos on it as well. I removed the little door off the actual ashtray that pulls out and put some Velcro on the sides to hold the iPod in. The door closes fine with the iPod in there and it works great. Can use the head unit buttons to FF, Rew and skip forward and backward. Overall I am very pleased with the sound and install.

Adapter in rear center cubby.

Ashtray with door removed and Velcro attached.

iPod installed.

Video of iPod in action.

So you decided to take out the CD changer? It could be left in place ...right?

The guy I bought the car from removed the changer before he sold it. I don't see why you couldn't leave the changer in there.

I ordered the Ipod2car interface and the CD changer harness today. Found it on e-bay for $45.00 plus $12.00 S&H. Hope to get my Ipod working in the C5 in a week or so?

Thanks to Munch for the good info!

This guy has a few to sell...go to Ebay and use the following item number in the search: 130327267225

He asks you to contact him via e-mail if you're buying for Corvette. He has the correct harness for them.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes and what you think. Post up some pics of where you put your iPod.

One thing they don't tell you about setting the dip switches is that you will probably have to turn switch number 6 "on" or the iPod volume will be noticeably lower than the radio or CDs.
