Nov 2021 would have been 20 years. I have 100% disability through the VA so the military counts that as a retirement.

While military might think you retired, those of us that did don't.

It's not a dig on you, just some see medically retired and 20+ years retired as different.

I avoided some surgeries to avoid the inevitable medical discharge that would have come afterwards. I wanted to finish at least 20 and I'd seen the recovery stats of that surgery. Asked the Dr. "Hey,, how about we leave it alone and see what happens?

So now I do have a VA disability for it, I still finished my 20 plus.

I get it and when asked I always clarify that I was medically retired. There is a huge difference between the two, but I wish I could have made my 20 at a minimum.

When I first started here about 10 years ago had an ex Army guy started at the same time. He told me he was retired Army, he was about 30 yrs old. I was like WTF?? How did you retire at your age. Then he said he had 6 years and was medically retired. Ya sorry but 20+ is just different.

I understand that some med retirements have had alot more to deal with than me, ie IEDs, and some just had stomach issues, etc.
