Default What would you do?

Oh, all knowing VB, I present to you a question which I'm sure many have a great answer.

Would you chose a very well paying job where only a few people at work are decent. The boss is also an untrusting douchebag. Or would you chose a job where the pay is half of the previous but many people are good including the managers....

For whom the bell tolls.

Probably the good paying job.
Go to work, ignore everyone, do the job, go home.
Stash away as much as possible, retire and tell them all to go pound sand.

Works fine until you catch the boss stealing your 401k money.

Had one cook the books and rob the company blind while he was telling all
the employees to keep investing in company stock through the 401k.
Share price went from $90 to $1.

Recovered most of it and and in two weeks it's

Boracay, is the salary of the lower paying job enough to comfortably live on?

I have done both; having done so, I would adjust my style of living to avoid having to work under the conditions of the higher paying job, if needed.

My salary and bonus isn't as much as it could be in my field but I love what I do and the people are great (both internal team members and client) so I choose to stay because I want to, not because I have to.

We spend too much of our lives at work to be unhappy and in constant "Cover your azz" mode.

Less money, come home each day happy.

That may work for some folks, but I could never manage it.

Depends if low paying job covers your expenses and your alpha drive.

I have high expectations for myself and probably couldnt settle in the lessor job knowing I am worth more. YMMV.

This. Have had both too. It sucks going to work everyday when you hate it. Make it as easy on yourself as you can. Hell if it takes a couple more years to make up the money what the hell gotta enjoy life while your here.

Hypothetically, yes, I know the job pretty well and enough so I've trained many. The financial situation is very well with household goods storage fees of $185 and food/utilities for the wife in the P-I. The $150k one is in a war zone while the half pay one is in a non-shoot zone. Can the boss be trusted? If you call trust when he pisses on your back and tells you it's raining.

Thanks for the answers, I'll go for door #3 which is keep my options open, hypothetically.

Went through the same scenario a year ago, although the owner of the Co I'm at is a decent dude and most all of the employees are good people.

I had a chance to get back a job I was permanently laid off from in 2009.
1/3rd more pay than what I currently make.
The Douche is at the Co that laid me off, and he's a back-stabbing,brown nose shit head.

I turned down the bigger $$.

Sounds like the db boss could use some competition. Go give him some, start your own business.

Knowing you can't trust your boss or people you work with sucks. If I could live ok on the lower paying job, that is where I would go. A future at the suck job might be short lived once you tired of said BS. Either job near Waner Robins???
