Default LASIK

I searched and we haven't had a LASIK thread in a while. I just made an appointment for an evaluation for next month, what are your experiences?

Cybercowboy, are you still pleased?

I had it done over 15 years ago and it was one of the best decisions in my life. I just had my eyes retested this year and my vision is still 20-15.

Need reading glasses now, but that was expected.

Pretty straight forward, and not too uncomfortable. Just plan on taking a nap for 4+ hours afterwards to let your eyes heal. When the blade hits your cornea, you feel some pressure, and maybe some anxiety, but it's not really painful.

I've had mine now for almost 20 years and my near vision sucks because I'm almost 60 but my far vision is still pretty darn good. I can only imagine how much better it is now than 20 years ago, I'd not hesitate for a second to get it done again. Not wearing contacts is really much better for your eyes too.

This is all it is. We rented a hotel room in Tulsa where I had it done at TLC (same outfit that did Tiger Woods) so that I could easily go back for the next day checkup. Got it done in the morning, only downside as far as I was concerned is the smell of burning hair when they shoot the laser at your eyes. No pain at all, zero. The xanax or whatever they give you really relaxes you, and then you sleep like a baby wearing some goggles. I woke up around 4:00 PM that afternoon and walked over to the hotel room window and said to my wife "I can read that sign over there at the Wal-Mart." She said no freaking way. I read it off, something that probably took 20-10 vision to read. Went out for dinner that evening (wearing my stupid protective glasses), did the checkup the next morning, and was good to go. Only restriction was not to scuba dive for awhile (duh) and that was pretty much it. Like going to the eye doctor but with extra steps.

That's awesome to hear!!! I was hoping you were still happy. I think I've found a great doctor here, he's got great reviews on several sites.

my glasses fit fine, and also keep things from hitting my eyes, while at the same time allowing me to see clearly. i only get one set, glasses are reversible, surgery is not. pass.

I've been trying to wear glasses for 4 years and I feel like I'm constantly looking through binoculars. I've tried different frames and had my prescription adjusted and I just prefer to go without.

Plus you can wear real sunglasses when it's really bright out instead of whatever lame-ass sunglass-like things hook to your regular glasses or those auto-dimming lenses that are lame compared to real sunglasses. Also you know when you get up in the middle of the night and someone is breaking into your house and you can't find your glasses? That's no longer a thing. I mean, another major plus!

if your eye's still change, Lasik will help for a while.....

had mine done 7-8 yrs ago.

Started wearing glasses 4 years ago, again.

Then came cataract surgery.

The younger you are the better chance it will hold I've seen. I was early 50's then and consider it wasted money now

But I know people who had successful surgery when they had it in their late twenties

I've considered it lately, but not sure how well it would work on 54y/o eyes that have had glasses since about 13.

This is what my eye doctor told me a couple years ago. My distance vision isn't that bad so I wasn't really considering it. He also said cataracts are also a factor in deciding not to recommend it beyond a certain age.

DO IT!!!

I didn't do it 20 years ago when I had a chance.
Biggest regret of my life. Seriously!

I went to do it a few years ago and they told me I was no longer a candidate for any of the Laser eye surgeries because unbeknownst to me I was told I had a progressive disease in both eyes(Kerataconus) and my corneas were too thin which is why I see double out of both eyes.

When I was given the news I couldn't get it done anymore I felt sick to my stomach and almost started balling in the doctors office. It was and still is such a big disappointment.

I had it done over 20 years ago and have no regerts. Went from not being able to make out the big "E" on the chart to 20/15 the next day.

I was warned that my eyes would still continue to change over time at the rate I would have to update my contacts prescription, and that has happened. Right now I need glasses for driving & flying, but otherwise I can go through the day without them if I want to.
