Default Just washed my iPhone. Any hope?

I just got done doing yard work and left my iPhone in the pocket. My wife washed the clothes and my phone was submerged for at least 5 minutes. Will the rice trick work or is that only for when it's basically in and out of the water?

yes. I got my first iPhone because i friend of my mom's dropped it in the sink. SHe thought it was dead, bought another one. Gave it to me a month later, charged it up, reset it and used it for over a year before getting a 3GS. As far as I know my friend's kid still has it to play games on.

It sucks in water through the charging port and earphone connection.

A little dampness and you might be OK.

Submerged for 5 minutes and my guess is it's SOL.

I would think the chances are VERY slim.

I almost dropped mine in the toilet the other day watching p0rn and, umm...well, I almost dropped mine in the toilet, yeah.

Put it back in the pants pocket, run it through the dryer.

Dry normally.

Serious.

My wife has washed two phones of mine over the years.

Drop a phone in some water and grab it out, fixable.

Fall into a pool or hot tub? Get it out fast and dry quickly? Survivable.

Washing machine for even part of a cycle? Doomed.

If you want to actually dry it out correctly, here's how to do it.

Fill a metal or glass container nearly full of rice. Put phone in the rice so it isn't touching the sides of the container. Place the container (no top) in a cool oven, 170 degrees is perfect if your oven goes that low. Leave it there overnight. Good luck.

If your oven does not have the ability to be set at 170, you can risk it higher but I would just leave it in the rice at room temp for a few days. You can't really take an iPhone apart easily but that's the other way to dry it out quickly.

Take out the battery (can you take the battery out of an iPhone?) if you can do that. Get some silicon desiccant (works mucho better than rice), you know the stuff that comes in those little bags inside of electronics. I think you can buy it in jars some place on the web. Bury the phone in it for about 3 days, then take it out put the battery back in and charge it up. If it works bonus, if not look for a repair place on the web. I believe you can exchange it for about $100.00.
If you have to use rice then get a blow drier and blow dry it for about 30 minutes on medium heat (put it in a paper bag, cover it with rice and blow the drier in.) Take it out, change the rice and do it again. Then after the 3rd trip leave it in for a couple days.
Their used to be some freon based solvent that you could wash electronics in that would remove water. I don't know if it is still sold or not.

I've got it in rice now. I may try it in the oven over night. It won't melt it?? I don't have a few days to be without a phone.

170 seems high. Could I do it lower?

prolly sol Frank!! I did the same thing to my wife's blackberry a few years ago. We were out on the river, and I had it my pocket, came home, threw my shorts in the wash, and then remembered it was in there. It was only in there for 2-3 minutes, and it was toast.

We tried the rice thing too, no luck.

For what its worth, my Son works for Sprint, he repairs phones and teaches other techs in the Sprint network how to repair phones.

Nothing is 100% at this point but the phone in the pants pocket in the dryer has worked best.
