This will probably take a while, the first thing I need to do is buy a lathe. No, check that, the FIRST thing I need to do is figure out where the **** I would put a lathe. I had a bunch of room in my garage a year ago, but COVID forced me to turn it into my weight room. OK, so I figure out where it goes, then I have to buy it, and some of those fancy tool things that actually cut the wood, then I have to learn how to do the lathe thing. There will be sanding and finishing involved too. I'm thinking 2050 is an optimistic estimate, but don't hold me to it . . .

Put the wood in the lathe and remove everything that does not look like a bowl.

Finally got more clarity today:

The good news: I am actually not REQUIRED to quarantine unless me or my wife become symptomatic. Until then, I am considered "secondary exposure", so there is no quarantine requirement, but I am encouraged to limit contact with others as much as reasonably possible.

The bad news: The earliest we could schedule a COVID test is Friday mid-day, so if we are both negative, we will be back out and about unrestricted (well, except for the restrictions everyone else is facing) in 3.5 days.

Not a big deal. Wife and I worked on some option stuff yesterday, and today reached out to a realtor about listing our one remaining investment property for sale. In other words, life is going on as before, just with the wife home instead of at the bank.

What is this "scheduling" of a COVID test of which you speak? There are lots of places here that do them free, and you just show up. No symptoms needed. No appointment needed. Should be like that everywhere - but apparently isn't.

Scheduled or not, having my brain scraped sounds uncomfortable as hell, so scheduled or not I ain't getting one unless I absolutely, positively have to.

Meh. It's not really like that. I was actually surprised that the pathway was accessible. I imagined complex curves into the sinus cavity, but it's more like this...

Actually, according to everything I hear, you can just sing a hymn to the swab and it will have virus all over it.

The last three I've had were simple nose swabs.

There are several places like that around here, we went to one this morning shortly after opening. There was no one there, so we figured we were good to go. Nope, nope, a whole lot of nope. The place opens at 8, and the guy at the door said that when he gets to work, the line is blocks long, and all the spaces for the entire day are booked within the first 20 minutes of opening. So, if we want to get in line at 5 am or something, that might work, or not, he had no idea what time the line started to form.

The rules have changed a lot around here too. You go to different places if you are symptomatic vs. non-symptomatic, which I didn't know, but am not surprised. Symptomatic places are open 24/7, so you may have to wait for hours to get your test, but they don't turn you away. At the moment, my wife and I are still non-symptomatic. I'm drinking a beer.

My kids have had them recently too, and say the same thing, they don't scrape your brain. They just shove a Q-tip like thing up your nose, twist it around a little, and you're done.

You'd never come up positive as there's no brain to scrape in that hollow head of yours.

More proof that testing is pointless.

Still have to schedule it here.
And they only do them in my town for one hour a week.
You still have to schedule it if you want to get tested in Omaha too.

It won't be the cheapest solution, BUT if anyone needs to travel in a short time or has an urgent need for a test, we have done this a couple of times. I can ship you the saline and swab, you take the sample, put it in the saline, pack in in ice (a yeti/Rtic soup holder works) and ship it back to me. We can run the test and have the answer by the end of that day.

I ship to you today overnight
You sample and ship back to me overnight
You get results the next day.

It is expensive though. The shipping costs more than the test. BUT when you gotta have it, it's an option.

I suppose I have to supply my own styrofoam cooler for shipping the sample back to you?

How much for just a piece of paper that says you tested negative?

This seems like it will become a cottage industry in the future....forged covid test documents. Seems like forged papers were popular during another time in our history......WWII Germany and their occupied countries.

We were bad little peasants and went back to see family over Christmas.
The wife, who is a bit of a hypochondriac, started getting sinus pressure and was afraid she had it.
We signed up last Wednesday for a Thursday 4PM test.
Had the results by 9.30am the next morning.

If we get in a bind, I will keep that in mind.
Thanks
