Is the OP asking about the M&P or the M&P Shield?
They are two different guns.

Both the full size and compact 9mm M&P have interchangable backstraps.

I don't normally tell people what gun to buy, but the 320 is accurate and shoots like a dream. The recoil is light, depending on the bullet weight, but it shoots 147gr. bullets with a VERY manageable recoil as well.
It's platform is also interchangeable, which I like.
You can buy the kit to make it a compact, subcomact, or full size w/o having to deal with an FFL. (the mech is interchangable and is what the serial number is on).
You can also buy kits to make it .357 or .45. THe kits are a bit pricey, but like I said, no FFL is involved once you have the original weapon.
I'd offer the guy $375.00 and see what he says. You can't get that gun for $400.00. That's a really good deal, depending on it's condition.

$420+tax includes both mags, case and holster. Like new condition. Lost in boating accident on the way home.

What do you think of its thickness on your side? Is it tolerable to carry ?

I have nothing to reference it with since I have never carried before but it seems ok to me.
