Thoughts (purchase consideration)
My 2000 Silverado has been awesome. I drive it so hard and it keeps on going. It's starting to deteriorate. Paint fading, 205k miles, tear in one seat...and a smashed in rear bumper.
I found a 2008 black Suburban. 115k miles. Loaded out with all options. Drives well. Problems: Dash is cracked (VERY common problem, not cheap to replace) Rear lift gate does not automatically raise (bad motor) Needs tires fairly soon Repairs for the above - $1400.00ish Truck is priced at $14,500.00 which is below book value. I'm thinking of offering $14,000.00 as the drive out price (after TTL) Thoughts? I'd post a pic, but without Photobucket, I'm not sure how. |

I like the 08 Tahoes, but I struggled to get over the non-telescoping steering wheel and the 5.3L engine. For 14k though that should be a nice ride for quite a while to come. Simple engine and simple tranny, should be some what reasonable on repairs.

Yeah, they went for pedal adjustment instead. Not a show stopper for me.
My truck has the 4.8 V8 so I imagine they'll perform about the same. My wife's 5.3 Tahoe could outrun me. Not that we ever tried it 3 or 4 times. |

That is CHEAP for an '08 LTZ. 2WD or 4WD? I paid a good bit more a few months ago for one a lot like it with <90k miles.
Probably needs shocks, too. Might burn oil as well with the AFM system on those. |

How much big stuff do you use the back for in the truck. I find it limiting for hauling stuff like bikes, 4 wheelers, or anything tall like mattresses. Prefer a truck myself.
Nice machine though. Tires are $$$. |

Bought an '08 Denali (non-XL) a couple of years ago for the wife. Has about 120k on it now. Still love it.
I turned off the auto lift-gate from day 1 (there's a switch) so that wouldn't bother me at all. I don't know about the 5.3 in a big 'Burban though. If it was me, I would be looking at the Denali with the 6.2. They can be found for not much more than that, but if you don't have a problem with the 5.3, I'd say you'll be just fine. Be sure to check for rust inside the rear doors at the bottom. |

I noticed right after the hurricane, they raised the price and then it was gone. I guess someone that needed a flood replacement car grabbed it.
Oh well, there will be others...I hope. MUST haves: LTZ Black Nav system/Sat radio Tan or Gray interior Less than 130k miles |

Is this at a dealership or private party?
If it's at a dealership, offer them 12K. I will bet you they paid around 10-11 for it. All they can do is either sit on their price, or drop their price with a counter offer. Look at it this way, if the tables were turned, and you were trading it in and you wanted 14.5 for it, they would not be shy about offering you 10. |

If you're mechanically inclined the dash is not that bad. It's still almost a $500 part, but can be swapped out in a day

I've owned 3 of that generation, a 2008, a 2010, and a 2012 (still have the '08). 2 of the 3 were kept outside. All were daily drivers. I have never had the slightest bit of a problem with a dash.
