Many years ago a black man asked me a question, "why do only white people get hit by trains?.

I had no answer. That said, he was right. Every time a person gets hit by a train he/she are always white.

When I lived in SoCal it seemed to be mainly Mexicans getting hit. They were the ones who also just couldn't wait for the cross guards to go back up and often drove around them when down.

I had a friend who commuted by train each day who was on board a train that derailed. Seems a Mexican fellow decided to commit suicide and parked his Jeep Cherokee on the tracks. At the last minute he changed his mind, got out and ran off. I think 1 or 2 were killed, but a lot were hurt. His defense in court was that, "He didn't understand why the train didn't just go around his truck. They saw it a long ways away and started blowing the horn at it...so they knew it was there.".

Here in the NY Metro area, we have had a few instances in the last 25 years of people committing suicide by train. So, there is that.

Judge's dangerous encounter with train astonishes those who know him

The fun-loving Michalski was the last person his friends expected to lie down in front of a slow-moving freight train, they told The Buffalo News.

But the judge was hit by a train on Feb. 28, 2021.

He survived with a serious leg injury, but has been embroiled in controversy ever since, with federal and state authorities investigating his friendship with an indicted strip club owner.


What is known is that about a week before Michalski was struck by the CSX freight train, federal agents contacted the judge to question him about his friendship with Peter G. Gerace Jr., owner of Pharaoh's Gentlemen's Club in Cheektowaga, and a target in the federal government’s ongoing investigation into organized crime in Buffalo.

And there is a witness to the train incident who told WIVB-TV he videotaped Michalski jogging toward the tracks and laying down in front of the CSX train.
