Default Christmas Gift

The lovely and talented Mrs Thomas bought me a 47" Octabox for Christmas. Now I'm jonesing for an 85mm lens. I've got a gap from my 28-70 to my 100-400.

Stay tuned for pics.

You have a 100-400?

Doesn't sound like enough of a gap to warrant one. I have heard they
are a great portrait lens, though.

This one, yes. Nice lens. IS works good, but it's not infallible.

I had the 70-200 2.8 and I sold it for the 100-400.
Can't find a bad review on the 85. Several say it's better than the Canon 85mm f/1.2L II and that lens cost 5x as much.

I still have my 50mm 1.8 Mk.I(metal mount) from the film days. I don't like primes, but I don't do portrait or studio stuff anyway. We had a full time photographer that shot product only. He had a full studio with any and all the goodies he wanted. He didn't even use a prime. The ONLY prime that has blown me away for IQ is the 200mm F2.

Thomas take a look at the Sigma 85 1.4. That is my favorite lens. 2/3 stops faster and sharper then the 85 1.8 and focuses much faster and cheaper then the 85 1.2.
