About the April Photo Assignment
Thank you to everyone who participated in the April Photo Assignment and also to the voters who saw fit to select my entry as worthy of recognition.
I believe that image "works" because of two things: backlighting and cropping. Here we have the world's most pathetic potted plant: It would have been thrown away long ago, but every year it blooms with those beautiful flowers. I have a fence and some hedges in my backyard and in the late afternoon, the sun shines from behind the fence, casting the hedges into shadow but illuminating an area where the picnic table stands. I set the pot on the table so that the flowers were backlit and shot this: From there it was just a matter of cropping out the distracting bits. The final image which became my submission to the April assignment: So there you have it. Beauty is all around us. We just have to train ourselves to look for it. |
