Default And yet more Horsey pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope y'all enjoy!

Tried to get some Coudscape in with some of these pics.
The slope of the pasture really lends to it well. Assuming the clouds and the horses cooperate.

My buddy Oakie, coming up for his belly scratch. Notice that beast under his left eye?
Yeah, I killed that bloodsucking bastard. Swatted him to the ground, then stomped oh him,
and ground him in real good.

Oakie is actually giving Mocha a bit of a nudge.

One of My favorites

Breazes are good for flowing mane shots

Some more with a lot of sky

Another one of my favorites

A great sequence of Mocha. And of course, it's against the power lines...sigh.

While I was taking pictures of Mocha, I had my camera bag hanging on the fence. I had it open
so that I could swap out lenses quick if I neede to. Of course when my back is turned, Julie
had to "Investigate" - I.E., chew on it...

Julie is 19 and Oakie is 32. He don't look too bad for a old man does he? He has slowed down a bit,
takes long naps, and a bit stiff in the morning, but he's not poor at all, and still rules the pasture. We may very well see 40 or more out of him. We keep him on light duty though. Still rideable, but not hard and no big folks. We'll keep the load light.

Still need to work on my lighting. A lot of pics had great cloudscape, but the horses were too dark.

Awesome pics! I really like the one of the light tan horse walking away towards the building. There are a few others that caught my eye too. Nice job! Beautiful horses!

I probably should frame up those sky pics in a black border. As they are now they tend to washout in the webpage.

I'm going to have to do a lot more practice with those type of pics though. I still didn't quite get the effect I was after.

The clouds do tend to blend with the background. Frames may help set the pictures.

As they stand posted, It does make the horses pop more though = Main focus

What effect were you going for?

Wanted to try and show the "big" of the sky. To capture the depth of it, and immerse the horses in it.

I was using the 18-135mm for everything. I wonder if the telephoto would have given me more depth. Also, our "Carolina Blue" sky just isn't that deep anyway.

I should have went ahead and lay down, and shot up towards the horses. That's harder to get than it sounds, because they want to come over and lick on me when I do that.

Edit: The border seems to help a little.

Frame does helps in getting the effect.

That would really show the big sky looking up with the horse looking down on ya!

Expose for the sky, horses are too dark. Expose for the horse, the sky is blown out. You could try this:

A split ND filter.

Thanks, I didn't know critters like that existed. I may just go pick one up.

I had to toss out a lot of shots that would have been great except for the wash-out.

Also, We have another pasture that has a nice slope to the skyline. Last year I had a great view of the horses running against the approaching thunderstorm was truly awesome. And of course I didn't have a camera handy.

They all look very kind. I'm a firm believer that you can tell a lot about a person when you look at his/her horse(s).

None of them look a day over 10! Thirty-two? That's amazing. I had Bucky's wife's old mare who we believe was almost 40 - and she looked it! lol... I miss sweet old Shadow.

Thanks for the pictures, the palomino looks like a bit of a character. Enjoy the heck out of them!

I hated reading about Shadow passing.
I worry about Oakie, but he still has a lot in him. He still alpha male in the pasture, and the three other geldings know it.

Oddball, I ran this through PS for a VERY fast edit. I masked out the sky, selected the inverse, and boosted the levels. If you REALLY wanted to do it correctly, you could select just the horse and make some adjustments.

Better yet I think. I adjusted the levels of the entire shot.

Yes that's what I'm after, just with the camera, not with PS

But with our light blue sky, I may just have to chop 'em.

Good level adjustment

Ain't happening I'm afraid. Get your shot as close as you can and start from there.
