If the warning come up it will take about a day to get teh shutters up. I've only been in 2 Cat 5 Hurricanes/Typhoons ( one n NY and one in Taipei).

Enough to ruin someones day. But living in a gated community where I would guess about 10-20% of the oldsters here are retired LEO or Mil I think I'd just be support if the SHTF.

No plywood? I have a few friends down there that keep some pieces of precut plywood in case they need to cover some doors & windows in an emergency for hurricanes. Not a bad idea.

All my windows and doors have hurricane shutters. If they blow out I'm screwed.

I do have a few tarps to cover holes.

I hope it goes out to sea also. Four years and we just got back from Super Storm Sandy....local weather is saying that by this Saturday or Sunday they should have a better handle on where it will be going (N.J. here)...the ACOE dune system is scheduled to be started in December or January....Thinking of getting hurricane shutters for sliders on ocean side but....Sandy took the houses ....shutters and all.

If you live within reach of a 6 to 10 foot storm surge shutters won't matter a bit. The pressure from the water will crush the structure.

The European models show the storm about 300 miles to the east of Fl. but the north American models show it coming closer to the coast of Fl. In either case we are going to feel good effects of the storm this thing is massive but at least it will be the backside. When Wilma came through it came the back way from the west coast of Fl and it blew the tiles from the roof off and smashed my skylights in the living room tore down my wood fence and no power for a week and I was still working in police work and could not go home to start fixing up my house till the following day. If this comes this way via the Keys at a Cat 4 or 5 I'm headed to Georgia with Kodi and my dad to my friends house because this place will be rubble. We shall see by Monday how close..

Plywood is useless it gets wet and looses its ability to stay on the walls just as tape is to the windows. All those old remedy's are a waste of time. Even the best of the best at a Cat 4 or 5 is pretty much useless because most of the Fl houses cant take these sustained winds. I use to do the damage assessments for the city I worked for and Cat 2 or 3 storms did significant damage to structures that I viewed.

In the Hollywood Ft Lauderdale area every time a Hurricane comes this way we try to evacuate everyone off the beach completely because it will be under water in a cat 1 storm cat 2 or 3 we try to get them west of I 95 which is about 4 miles from the beach east of 95 is a flood zone during hurricanes the salt water comes out of the drainage system. We are at or below sea level in different parts of the county. I'm about 12 miles from the beach so I am ok here from salt water but not flooding I'm in swamp land basically.

We live west of I95 in Tradition. If we get a storm surge Florida is gone.

Tile. Built in 2003-2004 so it's up to the latest wind code.

And I do have Flood insurance and wind damage for the roof and lanai.
