Glad she's back home. My only advice here is.....visit your parents more, because at some point, that will no longer be an option. I realize distance is a factor for you. Also, with regards to CHF.....if the cause is something that can be surgically repaired, and she's otherwise healthy, it would be worth considering.

So Dad sounded somewhat frantic when he called just a bit ago. I called my sisters to get them up to speed. we'll let the doctors do their doctor things, and know that whatever happens, it's what God wants to happen.

and after some back and forth, the hospital found a bed, so mom will be staying the night there, and not going home with dad. dad is pleased with this.

My Uncle had wildly varying heart rates, often getting so low that he would pass out. In the end, he needed a pacemaker. Does she have one already?

i have one, dad has one, but at this point, she's not a good candidate for one.

Sounds like hospital is best place for her to get care she needs right now and less worrying for your dad too.

morning update for those interested:

just talked with dad, he was in the hospital with mom, the docs are going to reduce some meds, to see if there are some unknown interactions that are adversely affecting her. so I expect she'll be there a few more days at least.

that's all i know.

her heart is very weak, so some day i expect a call telling me that she has passed away.

Damn. Having just lost my Mom and officially becoming an orphan, this hurts my heart to know you are facing a similar loss. All I can add is, if you can, you need to go up there and be with your dad right now. I get that you won't be let into the hospital, probably, but your dad needs you, and you need him right now.

we were up there in Sept, and my youngest sister was there at Thanksgiving time.

Dad is not hesitant to call and tell me what he wants me to do. if he called today and said he needed me to come up, i'd have to explain that it will take me a few days to get ready to leave and get up there. he understands that his children have lives of their own that they live, and we cannot just drop whatever we are doing and hop on a plane or get in a car. just the way it is.
