When I was a young man in the 70s a good friend used to have a party every year on the evening of Christmas day. It seems that by then everyone was sick of all the family bullshit and ready to party hard with their friends. Everybody was always there for that party.

Sounds like lots of people in this thread would be at that party.

I'm not going to go into details of our Christmas but let's just say that it involved every type of debauchery (not in a good way) that people can get themselves into, a few deaths, in-law fights, car accidents and drugs....

I'd be happy to trade X-mas with anybody I've seen post here so far.

Christmas week daughter ordained, my wife's birthday, moved Daughter three hours away, wedding rehearsal and dinner, wedding and dinner busy week. The honeymoon the Groom gets the flu and they are 1500 miles away. I feel like .

Most of our family drama was pre-Christmas, with my father-in-law dying a little more than a week before Christmas. With 4 daughters trying to coordinate funeral plans, most of the drama was associated with those plans, and as a result, was (mostly) played out by Christmas. The Christmas gatherings that followed were mostly relaxing, kind, and reflective affairs; with most of the family actually together due to the patriarch's passing.
