many, many people from far away lands use "american" first names so that they can have an easier time in public life.

as inclusive and understanding as we are, we have a hard time with odd names. it's not personal, but names without a basis in English are hard to say, to spell, and to use in everyday conversation with English speakers.

sometimes their parents understand this and give them "normal" first names, other times if they have arrived here with foreign names, they will adopt a normal name to make it easier on all. we just are not set up to process odd names on a regular basis. not Finnish, not Chinese, or even some French names.

i don't know if Mr. Lee was named Robert by his parents or if he adopted Robert later in life. but i'm sure he's a well qualified broadcaster, or he wouldn't be working at ESPN.
