Default Well, crap...

6 weeks ago, we had the ice cream trucked towed to a shop that was going to get it running for us again. While there, the wife wanted to give it a good scrubbing, and she wanted to fire up the generator to run the A/C. Since the truck was sitting for 3 years, the battery for the generator was dead. I bought a new one, installed it, and the generator fired right up!

The truck itself didn't want to start, as that battery was dead too. So, I bought another battery, installed it, then the truck fired right up. Would you believe there was a lot of material that exited the tailpipe? Bunch of insulation and crap. And a decent amount of white smoke. I had figured this was because the truck hadn't been run for 3 years.

The owner of the shop told us that as soon as he was finished one job, he'd get our truck in to fix the items we had asked him to fix.

A week later, the owner of the shop told us that there was another vehicle in that bay, and as soon as that one was done, he'd get our truck in.

She didn't call.

Friday morning, Laurie and I went to the shop for 9:00am, thinking they would be open. We were going to have the truck moved to another shop. The owner, and his wife, finally showed up at 11:00am. We asked them to prepare our bill, and tow it to the other shop. They prepared the bill, which I paid cash, and they towed it to the other shop.

At the other shop, we talked to the folks and told them what repairs we were wanting. When the truck arrived there, it was running hot (towed with the engine on so they wouldn't have to disconnect the driveshaft).

Got a call this morning from the second shop. They checked the compression and two cylinders are low. And there is a blown head gasket.

Now I need to figure out if I want to buy a crate 460 to put in there, find a 460 powered donor vehicle or...

We had wanted to get the ice cream truck up and running this year, to do some profiteering before the season ends.

Might have to have a 1 ingredient glass of bourbon tonight.

That would be a more than one glass evening for most of us.
I got a similar run around from the local Chevy dealer on my 2016 Vette a couple of weeks ago. They will not see my car in their service department again.

Wish we still had our race club's old RV. It had a 460 in it.

BTW, head gaskets are easy to replace. Why do you have to swap out the engine? Low compression is directly related to leaks around the gasket.

head gasket is a lot cheaper than an engine. Just fix it if it unless it has a million miles already.

I take the car in and Service adviser says there are other cars ahead of me for diagnostic service. I told him they just replaced the battery and I think it’s related to that. This dick made it clear he didn’t care. Said it would probably be a day or two until they could look at it

They had the car two days and finally called and gave me some BS story about fault codes etc and charged me $200 for diagnostics.

I ended up paying the $200 just to get my car out of there but they lost a customer and I have made it my mission to tell people here not to buy there or get service there

Just make sure when you get it running again you don't play the traditional ice cream truck song.

It's been cancelled due to "problematic" origins.

I'd throw gaskets on the bitch and get back on the road, alot cheaper and quicker than yanking a van engine.

We play this on a loop:

But since the other song was "canceled" we'll start playing it.

That's not the song our ice cream truck used to play. In fact, the Good Humor man didn't even have a truck - he had a tricycle with a big freezer on the front that he used to pedal around the neighborhood. On the handlebars he had a row of bells that would jungle as he rode, letting the kids know he was nearby.

I got as far and 6 weeks ago, took a 15 minute power nap and got as far as give it a good scrubbing. Lost interest and came back later and got as far as So, I bought another battery. Does your wife say yes dear all the time when you're talking while she's on the computer?
