I think, since you are turning 65 this summer, you ought to retire fully and spend your new free time making youtube videos of interest. Also road videos.
Forget about the headache of fixing other people's screw-ups. Not worth it at this stage of the game, IMO.

How is a regional expert a top expert? Yadkin didn't claim to be a 'top expert'.
Stop trying to turn him into a bullshitter. He's a straight-up dude. In his area, he's a regional expert. Over 40 years in the trade. He didn't say he was THE regional expert. Just that he was one. Possibly of many. He did not say 'top'.

It's not easy to retire. I keep raising my rates, never answer the phone, defer as much as I can, but good clients are hard to say no to.

My cheap-azz neighbor had some jackleg Disney employee cobble together a pier a few years back for $18,000 dollars; the clown set the lakebed posts in concrete like he was building a privacy backyard fence instead of "jetting" them in. many years ago i built a deck, not attached to the house, in the backyard. the county offered free, standard plans that they had already approved and that had been engineered by someone. you could alter the size as needed, but the connections and supports had to follow the plans. 6x6 posts on concrete pads of a certain size, 2x beams with maximum spans (want longer span, go up to next size), nailing minimums for doubled beams, proper hangers specified.

a fairly well thought out way of making sure decks had some engineering behind them without having to hire a PE for a 'simple' deck.

if you wanted to go beyond their standard designs, you could, but you needed to get your plans stamped by a local PE.

even though I was a PE there, my focus was not on structural designs, so I was glad this was an option.

Actually, his statement, "practicing your craft as regional expert" does infer that he is THE regional expert. If he intended to infer that he was only one of multiple regional experts, he should have typed, "practicing your craft as a regional expert."
