I have to attend a class once a year that is attended by some of our area farmers and ranchers. The old joke they tell is this:

Q: What do you do if you discover an endangered species on your property?

A: Hit it with a shovel and bury it at night, then don't tell anyone.

The ironic funny here is, you'd think most people would be excited and proud to have an endangered species on their property. It should be a source of pride, right? RONG.

In reality, that triggers a bunch of government restrictions, investigations, and costs that will have to be borne by the landowner.

Like if you have a Night Heron nest in your back yard.
