Default C8 spotted in the wild.....

So, I go up to Manistee, MI yesterday to see the annual antique Century boat show

We got a little thirsty and went to find a watering hole on Main St. and this is nonchalantly parked on the street....

Like most cars today, it shows the suckage in the styling dept.....trying too hard to come up with something that is somehow not a repeat of watt went before...

its really getting impossible, as all cars look alike these daze, so to REACH for something unique, and only made something FUGLY.....

back window about useless, can't see shit outta it, too narrow....front and rear are FUGLY......sides are no relief from it.....

simple and clean like a C3 etc.....C4 even.....not all junked up with crap....

I sat in one and was able to see out the back better than the Camaro. Right now there are things I like about the C8 and things that I able on the fence about such as the side vents. Because it has ex on the vin # that car will be destroyed.

I don't have an issue seeing out the back or sides of my 'mero... with the top down. Actually, don't have an issue with the top up, either.

But there is no timeline on when it has to be destroyed. It could still be used as a test mule for years to come.

Kurt got one of the preproduction C5 test mules to put a cage in it for GM so they could use it to test C6 parts.

They just can't be sold to the general public.

I've noticed most (if not all) of the C8s being spotted on the streets lack the nose and rear lid (stingray) emblems...This one also has no "Corvette" lettering on the rear above the license plate.

Much prefer the clean, debadged look.

The only spots on my '72 that have the flags is the 4 '89 vette wheels, and the gas tank filler.....

I will probably pass on the C8; hope the C9 is more to my liking (and that I'm still alive by then).

Was never a fan of the C7. I'm liking the C8. In a couple of years, I'll look for one, to see if I fit. May buy a C5 or C6 before then though.

Since no one has taken delivery of a C8 yet.....

the front engine Corvettes were always on the top shelf of two seat FE sports cars. Maybe not THE best... but one of the best.

The C8 looks like an entry-level ME sports car to me. Oh, the specs are there to run with the best... but that's what Camaro, Mustang, Ricers have said about their sedans and coupes (that were not built from the ground-up as sports cars).

Ferrari, Lambo, Audi R8 and other ME sports car owners will see the C8 and say "oh, that's cute". And IMO no one will confuse the C8 as a Ferrari or Lambo.

No doubt GM struck a home run with designing a ME for 60k base price; that was a great achievement; someone will get a huge bonus and deservedly so.
But the C8 will be looked upon by the world community as an entry level ME car... and not among the leaders in the ME class; even less than they may have considered past Corvettes as.

In its history - Corvette has never been an entry-level sports car; that's what Camaros and Mustangs are.

Now that I've seen the C8, I wish GM had spend 15-20k more on the car and given us more of an exotic, with a base price of $79k

I can understand your viewpoint with the exception of the bolded above. As great as the C7 is, it's no Mercedes SL, Ferrari Superfast 812 or Portofino, et al. Not only in fit and finish, but also in driving. You can take an SL to 130 and the car behaves like it was built to do it everyday. It's no big deal to the car. You take a C7 to 130 and you feel like you are really doing something. The car feels past its limits in everyday driving.

I was fascinated by the C8. It really is a departure from GM. I never thought they would go ME with the Corvette. From that standpoint alone, this car REALLY has my interest.

I'm with you on that.

Though I doubt the C8 will ever be for me. I skipped the C6 altogether; it wasn't a bad car... just not for me as well.

You could take a C5 and/or C6 to 130 and that's where those cars started to settle down and run.

The base C6 did/does nothing for me. The Z06, on the other hand... That's what a Corvette should look, and perform, like.

Uh, no. Perhaps they could turn in great numbers on the track at those speeds, but on the highway I would feel like it was beyond what the car was designed to do.
