I get the flu shot every year, I have a few major health problems and the flu could do me bad.
As far as the shingles shotS get them. You get shingles as I had and you will know the cost is well worth it. My wife & I had no problem getting the shotS. Nor did my son and his wife. Just go to the local Walgreens, sign a couple papers and role up your sleeve. I suppose its one advantaged of living rural, the drugstore is about 20 miles from any major population area. Its in a small town about 10 miles from my house! |

I've never had one, and used to rarely get it. Now it seems I get it about every other year, but usually I'm down for 2-3 days, then back to feeling better....maybe another 2 days to be normal.

When I lived in Silicon Valley, I got the flu once or twice every year. Since I moved to the small town where I live now, I've had it twice in 28 years. I guess it's a matter of how much you get exposed to it. I figure if you walk into a Walmart store in Silicon Valley, you are in proximity to people who were in about five different countries yesterday.
It also helps that I'm not around kids much. I do spend about six hours a week at the hospital I volunteer at. I get there a half hour early and wipe down my whole work area, desk, chair, everything I touch with bleach wipes. There is a counter between me and the people I interact with and whenever I get up to get coffee, go to the bathroom, etc, I use hand sanitizer. The hospital has wall mounted dispensers everywhere for the sanitizer. I'm normally not a germaphobe, but I am when I'm there. When my wife worked full time as an RN, she got sick several times every year, flu shot or not. It just goes with the occupation. |

House, even though off the air for years now, is still my favorite medical show. On POP network, on all night Tue and Sat, although mostly BS, I get a kick out of the banter between players. Next best show, New Amsterdam.

As far as the flu shot, I used to have to get it, no choice involved. Get it or get paperwork and disqualified for worldwide mobility. I'd just about always get sick after. So, retirement and I "forgot" to get it the next season. I didn't get sick. Rinse, repeat. Last year, I got some shit around March/April and got an appt. I'm talking with the RN about the correlation. He said, basically, you're better off getting the shot. You might get the sick after but if you don't get the shot, you're just gambling. |
