Default ok - I need to rant

attention all you 'talented' people out there. I hate to be the one to tell you, but buying that $500 DSLR camera does not make you a professional photographer. Photoshop is not your friend, but your enemy. As a photographer of 12 years, I have to say that you are a complete embarrassment. If one more person asks me what I use to edit my photos I swear I will lop your head off with a jagged spoon. I don't edit my photos. You know why? Because they don't need it. But by all means, go berserk with photochop. Make it look as awesome as you think and charge unknowing people hundreds of dollars. So, please go on and think you are hot shit, but by golly, don't call yourself a photographer.

(sorry, all my friends on FB suddenly think they are pros, and it's on my last nerve.)

Here are some crazy ridiculous awesome shots

No editing huh? Nothing? You start shooting weddings and turn over a bride with blemishes/patchy skin/flash highlights, you will rethink that.

Not real impressed with digital. Looking at a digital picture makes me feel like I need prescription glasses but I'm already wearing them. It's as though there's a hair on my eyeball. Definately something wrong in comparison to analog.

I've done art with photography using film. It's a lot of effort. Maybe too much. These days I use digital because of the ease of computer interfacing... But I'd never brag about the results even though my camera did cost more than $500

I was a devout 35mm person up until about 3 years ago. I went to school for photography, developed my own negatives and prints. It's tough to beat old school methods sometimes.

One of recent things is shooting in TTv (Through The Viewfinder), utilizing my grandad's 60 year old Kodak Duaflex camera. I used to shoot film in it until I found out this method. I built a 'hood' of sorts, and shoot a digital image through the top viewfinder of the camera.

For doing macro, I've built this 'contraption'....using an old 50mm macro lens mounted reverse and a bellows, Even built a wooden frame to mount it to with a tube to transfer the flash for backlighting.

Salt:

Snowflakes are still new to me and needs some improvements....

I'd have to scan them into a computer. You can't see the same quality as a print. My avatar is a scanned print. In the original print you can see my eyes through the sunglasses.

There's no comparison and it requires lots of manipulation just to keep it recognizable. Once I saw that I didn't scan anymore. So sad

What kind of scanner? I have. Nikon Coolscan for slides and 35mm. Don't use it these day however.

*Hopes Jo is not talking about her*

I do know what you mean. While I do use photoshop...I find enjoyment in touching up photos but not completely altering them...I too get frusterated by other "photographers".

My favorite it, "look at this amazing shot"....did you notice the street sign and trash can in your frame?.....no?......not amazing.
