Default Guess I better renew my tags.....

Oops.... been riding dirty since 01 Jan 2023

Here in FL, any truck heavier duty than a 1500 used to have the registration renewed every december. Well, it changed to have the tags renew the month of your birthday, but that was after I had renewed mine for two years.

Guess I need to get down to the DMV and fork over my hard earned $8.00 so I'm legal for another two years.

If you're lucky, maybe I'll have do up a professionally written story about the ordeal, too.

Just slap a GA plate on there, and you're good to go.

Does that mean I'll have to drill holes in my exhaust, too?

$8? I wish.

Here it's a percentage of the what the vehicle cost. When it was new. You could be driving a POS not worth its weight in scrap and still pay hundreds of dollars for a new tag. With three vehicles to tag it would actually be cheaper to drive expired plates and pay the fine every 5 years when I get caught

Wise man once say.... With 100% VA Disability rating come less tax burden.

It's $4.00/yr to register one vehicle here in FL if you have the 100% rating. Everything else you own is done at normal tax rates (set amounts not based on value of the vehicle), but they do tell you to put the DV tags on the vehicle that is most expensive to register.

In Texas, one DV tag is free, the others are at normal cost, usually about $ 75-100 or so, but ALL DV tags fly free on any toll road in Texas. And DV's also pay no property tax on their primary residence. My neighbor has DV tags on all the cars, so his kids can skip all the tolls.

I had DV tags in TX, but didn't know about the tolls or property taxes. Did you have to be 100% disability rating for that?

Given that at least 10% of FL cars on the road have no insurance, thus no current registration, you are a fart in the wind.
See how long you can go without it, we should start a betting pool, at +/- 3 months, my money goes on the plus.
If you get pull over, explain all the income taxes you are paying for the illegal immigrants have wrecked your personal budget, and you may get around to paying for a tag sometime next year.

Happened to my wife and I when we moved up to Tampa Bay from South Florida. I drove across the bay daily for a year, but it was Code Enforcement that caught it. They put a notice of abandoned vehicle on my cars in the driveway..

What is the amount of the disabled veteran exemption?

The exemption amount depends on the veteran's disability rating from the U.S. Veterans' Administration or the branch of the armed services in which the veteran served.
Disabled Veteran Exemption Disability Rating Exemption Amount Up To
10% to 29% $5,000 from the property's value
30% to 49% $7,500 from the property's value
50% to 69% $10,000 from the property's value
70% to 100% $12,000 from the property's value

A disabled veteran may also qualify for an exemption of $12,000 of the assessed value of the property if the veteran is age 65 or older with a disability rating of at least 10 percent; totally blind in one or both eyes; or has lost use of one or more limbs.
Edit: This is unclear to me. I'm pretty sure we voted a while back on full property tax exemptions for DV's, but this seems to read they just knock off a portion of the value. Is that the tax assessor appraised value, or of the actual tax due. I thought it was off the tax actually due, but this doesn't read exactly like that. I'll ask next time I'm at the tax office.

I moved the tag from my camper to my equipment trailer. Someone told me I'm better off without a tag than having a tag from the wrong vehicle on the trailer.

Anyone care to chime in on this?

I just had to renew my 2016 Ram 3500. $840 for five years. Ooof. The rest of my cars are around $35/yr in Arizona. Month due is based upon first month the vehicle was registered so they expire year round. At least we don't have to pay sales tax for private party sales.

I was at 80% when I was in TX, but still paid about $3K in property taxes per year. Tax rate is based off the assessed value of the house and others around it which is kinda ****ed up. Mine was assessed at $250K but couldn't sell it for more than $165K which is right about what I paid for it when I lived there.
