Default Oak tree question.....

Glanced out the window, and decided to photo, so to ask about this pin/water oak in the back yard.....had a sizeable dead limb cut off some years ago, some 20 years ago I cut short a large limb down lower that was going to overhang the room addition....

there are dozens of knots where various branches have been cut/broken off over the decades......

but this wet ooze of sap out the side at maybe 5' off the ground is a cause to question and get an honest opinion as to about ROT......

I think you are confusing lushes with arborists. We are lushes here, not arborists.

Mr. Gene, yes that is internal rot.
Not too much you can do about it as it is very common in these Oaks.

These Oaks grow like weeds in swampy areas due to being short lived and are easily diseased...but...they have a lot of acorns to ensure repopulation.
And all these acorns are good for more than being kicked up by the lawn mower, sling shot projectiles, or tiny land mines for your bare feet...they feed tons of wild life.

Well, isn't THAT interesting, as both the back yard and especially the front yard are flooded with black/brown/red? ants up to 3/8" long.....along with the grass hoppers I just wrote it off to weather, been a weird winter.....
