Default I'm officially old....
some months ago, as i was driving across town to get a load of water one morning, my phone rings, i look at the number, don't recognize it, but also know it's not the type that is typically a scam call. i think it was from Louisiana. so, feeling lucky, i answered it. it was some lady, who had my name and started asking questions about the cost of a well.

this is an odd call and question i thought, so after some back and forth, and sussing out who she was and why she was asking me such questions, and how she got my cell number, i figured out that she was looking to buy the vacant lot up the road, about 5.6 acres, mostly flat, an odd shaped lot with only about 2.5 acres of buildable space. formerly used as pasture for horses.

i call her back when i get home, get her email address and we trade emails about real estate in this area, values of land, and other useful info.

some time passes.

yesterday, i get an email from her (Vanessa) telling me that she has bought the lot and plans on building a new house for herself this year. good for her.

so i send out an email to everyone in the neighborhood, CC her, and explain the new neighbor may be sending out an email, so please add her to your addy book so the email doesn't get sent to your spam folder.

so she does reply to all, and refers to me as:

Mr. Brinkman.

you can just call me Douglas.

some 34 year old woman calling me "Mr. Brinkman" - yep, i'm officially old.

Nox, as usual, bringing the real deal question.

Doug, there's a new employee in another department at my work. To be exact, I have no supervision of her at all. She's 20 and could actually be a model. Yes, tall and quite attractive. So, I talk to her and now she responds to me with my name or Sir. In a way, I know she's just being proper from a good upbringing. In another way, I know for sure I'm one of the old farts now.

Young guy just out of the service started working at the local beer distributor. He kept referring to me as "Sir". I asked him his name, I shook his hand and introduced myself to him.

Next time he called me sir, I just froze, looked around without moving my head and said quietly "There is somebody behind me, isn't there?" with my eyes wide open.

I got him to laugh out loud and from then on, he called me Jeff when I went in.
