Pet Kangaroo Gets Loose, Causes Stir in West Texas

MIDLAND, Texas November 14, 2013

Officers in West Texas who answered calls about a kangaroo hopping along a road helped capture the pet and return the animal to its owner.

Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter says deputies thought dispatchers were crazy when calls came in Tuesday night from people who said they saw a kangaroo. Patrol car video shows some of the chase along a rural highway near Midland.

Deputies helped corner the 4-foot-tall kangaroo as the owner offered a treat to the animal, then grabbed the pet.

Painter said Wednesday that Midland County has an exotic animals ordinance and owners must notify the sheriff's office. Authorities are checking to see if a pet kangaroo falls under that category.

I was working in WA and they told me they had a baby kangaroo in the office. I thought they were sending the Yank on a wild goose chase, but it turns out they actually had a kangaroo in the office.

I went to Perth a lot from 2008-2010ish. Flew in to Karratha and out to CP mining which is a new start-up iron ore outfit. it was pretty cool when it wasn't tropo season or the dead of summer when the flies are in force.

I did like Perth because its a lot like San Diego (where I live), but the strict driving laws and not being able to drink as much as you guys kinda sucked.

Lol. That sounds like Perth alright. Strict driving laws. And heavy drinkers. I only have one speeding ticket. Mobile speed camera caught me at 107 in a 100. Although, WA is the only state here that allows radar detectors!

I suppose you know mining peaked here about a year ago. Now LNG (liquid natural gas) is slowing also.

I did not know that specifically, but world wide demand for raw materials has been off. Caterpillar bought our customer so now I don't work in the mining field anymore.

A ticket 7 kays over...wtf, for real? Jesus, I got a warning for doing 144kph the other month- that's Cali for you (the weather isn't the only good thing here). Speed cameras haven't fared too well in the states as they don't jive too well with our constitutional rights and many states have done away with them due to being able to beat them in court with a 100% success rate. they were already illegal in my state before they existed. Red light cams are also on the decline.
