A dvd burner is what you need to convert them all over or a video capture device to convert to digital.

Never bought a movie. Rented them a few times about 25 years ago. Does that count?

Unpacked CDs, albums and movies as I type this. I need to find a way to get all that stuff on a server

Phred said Plexus

Need to check into it. Want to rip CDs and movies and use iPad to play from

PS last movie I bought was the Mel Brooks collection that Phred posted a link to. I need to stop buying shit while PUI.

Plex, not Plexus. Plexus is where Porter lands when he trips over a yoga mat.

You download the Plex server software, install it on an old PC, and start ripping. Download the Plex iOS client for your iPad and listen. So simple even @JetMechZ16 could do it.

Somewhere around 1900 BluRays, 200 DVD movies and 70 full tv shows. I own all the physical copies except maybe a few seasons of tv shows where they were never made.
Most I've ripped 1:1 on my NAS and I use Emby as my server. Had Plex but started to hate it so I switched.

I like Emby. Emby doesn't peep on your viewing habits and use your information unlike Plex started to a couple years ago.

I think a big benefit to owning media is that at some point in the future, what you may want to watch/hear will be unavailable; or "available at an extra price."

I only buy movies that I want to watch more than once anyway. If it ain't good enough to watch again several years later, it probably wasn't a good movie worth buying.

I kinda hate that we are becoming a society of renters without ownership. Some things make sense to rent, others, I want to own; like my cars.
Scott
I have the proper drives and software to burn my 4k's but I decided not to.
I will keep streaming my BR's and DVD's but for serious watching I will grab the 4k out of the shelf and put it in my Oppo player.
4K takes up a lot of space and also a lot of bandwidth to try and stream so I said forget it.

I bought my first VHS VCR around 1980. I recorded a lot over that decade. I saved it all thinking one day I would go back and watch it...never have. I have a huge box of VHS tapes of TV shows, movies, etc...from that time.

I won a DVD of American Graffiti in a contest. I may have a couple more on DVD. That's it. I just don't watch anything over and over.

I have Comcast and their DVR. I have a lot of stuff on it that I would like to get to DVD or off of it somehow...anyone know how to do that?

Maybe 50 - 60 DVD's, about half are classic movies, and the others concerts, mostly Clapton, Crossroads, Eagles, Dire Straits, etc.

You got a metric shton of movies Mikey!
My buddy set me up with a few thousand titles on a separate drive but they are low quality; some of them just a few hundred megs

We were pricing out a NAS setup but figured it would cost about a new pair of Legacy Aeris to set up. Screw that noise....

Some day though, when storage/speed get cheap enough to warrant it.

I would guess with the NAS, expansion unit, hard drives I have $10k in it.

I have quite a few DVDs but not "hundreds". I dropped NetFlix, HBO, et al because there just weren't many movies I cared to watch. When I built my home 20 years ago I HAD TO HAVE a killer media room. What a waste that's been.

I have hundreds, maybe thousands of dvd movies half of which I finally moved to a basement offsite. I just can’t get myself to throw them away.

I bet if I looked hard enough, I could find my VHS tape collection down there too? “Married With Children” and “In Living Color” sharing space with top shelf pRon.
