Hey, I've seen/found a mic system that is meant to be used by road cyclists so they can communicate while riding. VERY lightweight and may fit the bill.

Claims to have a range of 1700'. Since it is intended for riders out in the wind, this may fit the bill for sound clarity AND be light enough.

How long are you there?

Without question, you have to go eat at Bruno's (it's off of 26). Be sure to order some Bruno Dough.

Bruno's Pizza and Big O's Sports Room

If you want an awesome "dive", hit XXX for lunch. You'll drive right past it as you go up the hill towards campus.

Harry's Chocolate Shop is another must stop place. It's a great bar at night (21+) but a restaurant during the day. It just got ranked the #1 college bar in America by buzzfeed (and is always way towards the top of those lists)

Most other recommendations are best at 3:00 am after a lot of beer (at the Neon cactus).

Any reason you're going that far but stopping an hour short?

Just curious...

Plane doesn't get in until after 10 pm. Will be a long day for all, so staying near the airport the first night makes the most sense.

Well yea, I guess that would make sense. I kinda forgot about the whole "flying" thing (since I drive everywhere).

Well, I would presume that we need a minimum of three of these devices. One for driver #1 on the track, one for the relief driver #2, and one for the pit manager. As driver #1 comes out of the car he/she transfers the unit to the next driver (#3) in line. The problem there is designing a decent fitment for the various helmets. While it would be nice to put a unit on all the drivers and the pit manager it appears that the system will only support four units at a time, not the five that we need. Alternatively, perhaps we could go with some Family Radio Service (FRS) units that will permit as many units as necessary. Take a look at: http://www.amazon.com/Midland-GXT1000VP4-36-Mile-50-Channel-Two-Way/dp/B001WMFYH4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1453464402&sr=8-3&keywords=frs+radio
Another concern here will be the noise cancellation feature of the units as the engine is running basically wide open. I'd hate to have the ambient noise so high as to force the unit to cancel the driver's information to the pits.
