I can't get my power nailer to...
put a nail straight into two pieces of 5/8" thick PTP. I'm building a trellis for a vine under the patio cover, and the 90 degree joints are just not working. I applied glue, mated the 2 pieces togehter, and fired the 2 1/2" nail. It veers and comes out the side of one of the pieces every time. The stiles are 1 3/4" wide and mated to an equal width rail.
I've done enough power nailing to aim it straight. Is PTP so hard so that it can deflect a nail every time? I resorted to using 2 1/4" square small-head screws, but that is very time consuming...and expensive. |

Nah, I did the wood working starting at 4:00 p.m. today, before Happy Hour at 5:00. I never work with heavy equipment after drinking...unless there's train nearby to joy ride in.... Did you know that trains are remarkably simple to operate?

Screws sound like the way to go anyway. I assume you're pre-drilling?

IF the PT wood is dry, that is fairly common, along with not full length into the wood, it pops the nailer back fairly sharply.....
and it will vary with the particular stick of wood too, sometimes you just better off with a 3/8 lag bolt/washer |

My power nailer sometimes goes in the wrong hole. Sometimes that's a good thing.
