Memorial Day crosses for fallen soldiers removed after single complaint
A Memorial Day display featuring dozens of white crosses to honor fallen soldiers was removed from public property in Georgia after someone complained.
The 79 handmade crosses in Hiram were meant to represent the 79 Paulding County residents who died in America’s wars, officials told Fox News. Hours after the crosses were posted, an unnamed resident called the office of City Manager Barry Atkinson and asked whether a Christian display was appropriate. Mr. Atkinson said “It opened our eyes that we missed something here, and we immediately took corrective action.” He said the caller offered to make a donation if the city decided to build a new memorial. “If Hiram was willing to do a permanent veterans memorial, they offered to make a cash contribution" |

I wonder what would happen if within an hour or two after the crosses were removed, the town received a single complaint:
"Put the crosses back up, I will donate to a memorial if you do" Here is the likely response: "We received a single complaint after the crosses were removed" said Mr. Atkinson. “It opened our eyes - that we now are able to determine this person is a ... racist bigoted sexist right-winged global warming denying homophobe. The mere mention of a donation... is clear that the wealthy think they can dictate their beliefs to the poor. We've asked the Obama administration to immediately take corrective action.... by arresting those who have differing opinions than the federales.” . Last edited by Mike Mercury; 05-25-2016 at 9:05am. ********UPDATE************
I JUST CALLED THE HIRAM, GA Parks and Recreation department. I was told the crosses were put back up this morning. I hope they are telling the truth and not just appeasing angry callers. A woman told me they had a special hearing last night and put the crosses back up this morning. I thanked her profusely. ************************** |

Crosses for fallen soldiers cause controvery in Hiram | WAGA
HIRAM, Ga. - The city of Hiram restored its Memorial Day display honoring 79 people from who died while serving in the military. Wednesday morning, 79 simple white crosses were put back in place along Georgia Highway 92 in honor of the fallen soldiers from Paulding County. The crosses had previously been on display; however, on the same day they were placed along the highway, they were taken down. The tribute was put to a halt because city leaders got a single complaint asking if all the soldiers, represented by a cross, were Christian. There was also a question raised as to why the crosses were placed on city-owned property. Mayor Teresa Philyaw called the crosses "rest in peace markers." She said when placing the names on the crosses they never questioned beliefs. Still, fearing a lawsuit, the city took down the crosses. People upset about the removal of the display took their concerns to a city council meeting Tuesday night. At the meeting, Tommy Dingler held a photo of his son, Joshua, as he spoke to the city council. Joshua was 19 when he was killed in Iraq. |

Anyone else think we're just screwed in the royal fashion and giving a sweet shit is a waste of your time?
The longer I observe the world the more things blur. Remember the old Peanuts cartoons... Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus and all them? Remember the adults? "wahhh wahhhwahhh, wahhwahh-wahh wahh-wahh-wahh." That's all I hear anymore. Homosexuals bitching about Bond... Trump bitching about the Mexicans... you guys bitching about someone bitching about something in the OP... I've already forgotten... All friggin' day, every friggin' day... bitch bitch bitch... this is unfair, this needs to change, this can't be allowed to change... blah blah blah... The right, the left, Obama, Trump, America, 'Merica, Guns, Homos, Blacks... all anybody ever does anymore is bitch about something someone did, said, or believe, think, desire, love or hate. People just keep bitching on and on and on and nobody offers an actual pathway out. The right hasn't, the left hasn't, nobody has. I was about to type "nothing ever changes", but that's wrong... things do change... they're getting worse... much worse... and they're going to get really dark and nasty I think... And what am I doing? Bitching. It's what we do. But it isn't the only thing we can do. I'm done bitching for now, here's something for you to bitch about: Since no government can possibly represent all religions, they must represent none of them. No religious iconography of any kind on publicly owned property. It's the ONLY fair way. Yes, it requires Christians to bear a burden, but it requires all other religions to bear the exact same burden, it favors NO ONE. |

I got the answer for you, Apex. Everybody takes responsibility for their own stuff, does what they want, says what they want and deals with any consequences personally.
Return to the way this country was envisioned and originally set up. Government out of everyones business. If you want to put up a flag, cross, whatever, that's your business. If somebody doesn't like it, tough, let them deal with it and get on with their own thing. Stop promoting every agenda that some aggreived minority comes up with. In cases of a public issue, majority rules. This is America. We don't fly the flag of another nation here and English is the official language, and we have our own culture here. Welcome, if you want to be American and comport yourself accordingly. That is how you put an end to all the garbage this country is enduring. No free rides, and no victim culture. |
