Not true. He got paid in Pieces of eight. And if he was good he got to sleep in the rack he built for that B&D club.

In the late 19th century, Australia and News Zealand underwent bitter protests by workers resulting in the first established minimum wage. Franklin Roosevelt enacted similar legislation over 40 years later in the U.S. in 1938, known as the Fair Labor Standards Act. The initial minimum wage law required employers to pay employees a minimum of $0.25 per hour. Since that time, the federal minimum wage steadily increased with the cost of living.

The Fair Labor Standards Act requires all federal agencies and contractors of federal agencies to pay workers the minimum of the established federal minimum wage. The act also applies to the majority of private sector employers. The requirement for the private sector is an annual gross income or business of no less than $500,000. Some workers are exempt from the FLSA including professionals, teachers, outside sales people and small agricultural businesses. Employers may also provide lower wages to youth or apprentices for the first 90 days of employment.

I guess the question for all of us is, would you have done it for say, $2 an hour?

Not to put you on the spot, but the two perspectives are if someone would work for it or a company should pay for it.

It was paper work, I would have worked for what ever I could. I was 15. If minimum wage was 2 dollars then the price of everything would be cheaper.

That makes a good point, because when you're just entering the workforce you don't care, you're just happy to be paid and know that's what you're supposed to do.

And for most of us here, we worked because our parents made us, not because we had to. It was more educational than financial.

But for those that aren't so fortunate . . . if you're a kid with no skills because your parents were shitty and you're just tryin' to find your way . . .

So many perspectives, that's all.

I agree.... here is a curve ball thrown in. I know that some people stay on welfare because it pays more than minimum wage.

I think minimum wage should be $1000 an hour.
At least this way I'd pay myself well.
